How would you pronounce Bleu?

Ok, friend of a friend had a little boy a few days ago and announced name of fb. I ended up seeing the announcement because friend of a friend commented on it.

They've named their baby Bleu. Am I going mad? That's pronounced like Bl-er isn't it? Like Corden Bleu?

All comments are saying how lovely it is and how he is their 'little boy blue.'

I didn't say anything and then our my friend mentioned that her friend had had a little boy and named him Blue. I said "oh like the colour?" and she said "yes, but they've spelt it the french way, think it's Bleu"

I said that Bleu isn't pronounced Blue but Bl-er and she looked at me like this --> Hmm

Isn't this baby going to go through life with 'Bl-er' as a name or have I got it really wrong? Blush

No, that's sort of how I would pronounce it. Certainly not as blue anyway. I'd pronounce it how the French colour is pronounced, but I can't work out how to write down how that sounds.

Creatureofthenight · 16/06/2017 12:10

As it is spelt the French way I would pronounce it the French way and judge the parents whilst doing so.

YokoReturns · 16/06/2017 12:10

Yep, it's 'bluh'. He'll be spelling that one out his entire life...

pnutter · 16/06/2017 12:10

Bleurgh

EssieTregowan · 16/06/2017 12:11

Bleurgh.

onesilencetoofar · 16/06/2017 12:11

There was a lad at my kids school years ago called Bleu and it was pronounced Blue.

SuperBeagle · 16/06/2017 12:11

Yep it's bluh/bler

Horrid name for a kid even if they intend on pronouncing it Blue which is wrong

Whereland · 16/06/2017 12:11

If pronounce it "bluh". How odd.

OohMavis · 16/06/2017 12:12

It's Bler! Shock

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 16/06/2017 12:15

I would say Bluh - but I know it's supposed to be Blue because I know someone with twins called Skye and Bleu pronounced Blue.

OwlsinTowls · 16/06/2017 12:17

Bleurgh...

AnniesTurn · 16/06/2017 12:20

This really fucks me off. People can't just decide word says something other than what it says and expect everyone to go along with it. That's not how it works and they look thick!

Recent friend of a friend had a baby leela. Oh no it isn't lee-la it's pronounced Layla.

Feel like telling her it really fucking isn't Layla it clearly says LEE-LA

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 16/06/2017 12:21

Bleurgh.

troodiedoo · 16/06/2017 12:22

Not so much pronounced blue, just spelt wrong. Tsk!

MadisonAvenue · 16/06/2017 12:22

Bleurgh

alltouchedout · 16/06/2017 12:24

Bluergh.
Poor kid.

alltouchedout · 16/06/2017 12:24

Or even bleurgh. Either way, not a great name.

sparechange · 16/06/2017 12:24

Bluergh

Confused
OohMavis · 16/06/2017 12:25

Skye and Bleu?! Grin

Iknowacrackingowlsanctuary · 16/06/2017 12:27

Thank heavens, I thought I was going mad!!

You can't just take a word, spell it the French way but pronounce it the English way!

Bleurgh is exactly the sound I was making when ranting to my Mum and DH about it!

I mean it does look very pretty and French. But it doesn't sound very pretty at all.

Has anyone seen Hotel Transylvania? "I do not say bleurgh, bleurgh bleurgh!" - that's all I'm thinking of.

Blur/bleurgh/blerr

Interesting choice!

BendydickCuminsnatch · 16/06/2017 12:30

Jam It's not pronounced 'blue' though Confused It's french.

msocean · 16/06/2017 12:31

I'd pronounce it the way you'd say "bleu" in "schnitzel cordon bleu".
