Hi ladies. I've lurked for ages but now I'm finally pregnant have decided to join!

I've a while to go, but dreamt around 5 months ago (before I was even pregnant) of the name Dixie for a girl and havent been able to shake it since.

My partner likes it too but I'm not sure if it's just the fact I dreamed of it taking over for me. Also toying with Daisy.

Honest thoughts please? Surname is Dark if that helps!!

Prefer Daisy Dark to Dixie Dark.

ineedamoreadultieradult · 21/05/2017 20:46

Cant say I like Dixie and especially not with the surname Dark. Sorry not helpful.

sonlypuppyfat · 21/05/2017 20:48

Daisy is lovely Dixie isn't, sorry

OpalTree · 21/05/2017 20:49

I wouldn't because of the Dicks sound. Dotty short for Charlotte?

LurkerNoLonger · 21/05/2017 20:49

No worries at all, the more honest the better Smile

I just love the D names at the moment to roll with Dark - which is a lot easier for girls than boys!

Sorry didn't see Daisy was an option. I like that.

Creatureofthenight · 21/05/2017 20:50

I'd be awfully worried about mean kids shortening it to Dick.

Rockaby · 21/05/2017 20:50

Pixie Dark?

I like Pixie but not Dixie. I also like Daisy Dark.

NeverTwerkNaked · 21/05/2017 20:52

I know a little Dixie and she really suits her name! I wasn't sure when her name was announced but it has really grown on me, go for it if you love it Smile

Badgoushk · 21/05/2017 20:52

I like Dixie! And I like the DD name. I have an SS.

What about Delilah? Delilah Dark sounds cool. Or Dahlia (pronounced Day-lee-uh.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 21/05/2017 20:53

I'd go with Daisy Dark.

I'd be worried about the dick sound in Dixie too, and Dotty is a nasty thing to do to a child.

bigredboat · 21/05/2017 20:53

It makes me think 'Dixie Normous', sorry OP!

skyzumarubble · 21/05/2017 20:54

I like Dixie but not sure it works with Dark

EachandEveryone · 21/05/2017 20:54

Prefer Pixie.Dotty isn't short for Charlotte surely?

spankhurst · 21/05/2017 20:57

People of a certain age will thinkmof Daisy Duke, if that bothers you. It was the first thing that I thought of. Dixie just sounds a bit...non-name.

ScarlettDarling · 21/05/2017 20:58

I think it's very cute but not sure that it sounds like a real name!

Darcy?

Badgoushk · 21/05/2017 20:58

I think a 4 syllable name sounds very elegant with Dark. Eg,
Elizabeth Dark
Hermione Dark
Arabella Dark
Amelia Dark

Daisy dark is too near Daisy Duck for me.

Reow · 21/05/2017 21:00

Dixie has beer, shit country band and American Civil War connotations.

I wouldn't use it. Love Daisy though.

AlcoholAndIrony · 21/05/2017 21:02

Love the name Dixie but Dixie Dark sounds like a marvel superhero to me. Sorry.

Whereisthecake · 21/05/2017 21:03

I instantly thought Dick See Dark.. which just seemed weird. Daisy is nice x

JoanRamone · 21/05/2017 21:03

What about Beatrix and shorten it to Trixie?
Daisy Dark makes me think of Daisy Duck, Donald's girlfriend.
Also might inspire the nickname 'double D' and with Dixie as the first name I just think it's a double whammy of potential innuendos.

LapinR0se · 21/05/2017 21:03

Oh god no the alliteration is horrendous

LurkerNoLonger · 21/05/2017 21:04

Thank you all for your responses! I think you're all right. I do love the name but I don't want to saddle a child with a name that'll be cause for teasing as they grow up.

Dark is a difficult surname to match a D name with Grin... Donnie Dark is like the movie and Donald Dark is like the cartoon!

I also like Penny, Piper and Effie but a new name seems to pop in to my head every 5 minutes at the moment!

Thanks again everybody Smile
