DH wants to use the name Chelsea. Tack galore?

Our daughter's first name will be Athena. I want Helen (my Mum's name), as her middle name. I highly dislike multiple middle names and so does DH.

He is set on having Chelsea as the middle name. He would've had it as a first name if I agreed.

Chelsea is his football club. Chelsea is where DD will be born.

AIBU to say it's tack galore? Do you think it's tacky? She'll be born in Chelsea and her Father is Chelsea. I cannot get passed it being terribly tacky and distasteful.

Sad

Yes, I should have said I was suggesting that your Dh might go for Blue as a slightly subtler club tribute.

Personally I really like Chelsea and Athene and I actually think they flow quite well.

DH is a huge Beatles fan - he wanted our first DC to be called McCartney (male or female). I could never work out if he was joking or not. Safe to say DC1 was not called McCartney (or Lennon, Star or Harrison for that matter).

"I've already compromised by taking his name at marriage and the baby having his surname too.

We both agreed on Athena, therefore he can let me decide on a middle name that he likes too."

Exactly what I thought. So you get to choose the middle name!

Also it's annoying me on your behalf that people are being so negative and critical about the name Athena when you weren't asking for opinions on it, you made it clear you've already decided on it and just wanted input on the second name.

Angry
NameChange30 · 17/04/2017 18:42

(By "second name" I mean middle name.)

DeanaPiana · 17/04/2017 18:43

MadMags DH isn't Grin

Prince goodness, that's even worse! Blush

What about Chelsea Blue lol

DeanaPiana · 17/04/2017 18:45

NameChange you're spot on there. I was going to say something but decided to hold my tongue due to all the snidey/clever comments I'd get as a response Hmm

Thank you for the back up! I agree

My sister is Chelsey, she's never been asked if it's because of the football team. Possibly as it's spelt differently

FeedTheSharkAndItWIllBite · 17/04/2017 18:51

Athena is a really pretty name!

And yes, I agree. You took his last name, you therefore get to choose the middle name and in my case also the first name... But DH refused to compromise with the last name, wanted DC to have both of his names and (quite understandably...) didn't want to triple barrel....

I honestly think that he should simply accept your choice of middle name...

Blossomdeary · 17/04/2017 18:54

Just don't have a middle name. Chelsea is grim.

Heathen4Hire · 17/04/2017 18:54

A friend of a relative named his daughter Millie after Millwall FC.

Chelsea is a tacky name. I like Athene Blue.

olympicsrock · 17/04/2017 18:56

Athena Helen is lovely sounds Ancient Greek and very classical

DeanaPiana · 17/04/2017 18:59

Heathen still a lot better than Chelsea Grin Millwall though... Ewww Shock

Athena Grace?

Sort of fits given what she was the goddess of?

DearMrDilkington · 17/04/2017 19:02

Oh please don't ruin such a beautiful name like Athena with Chelsea stuck next to it!

Chelsea is awful and really doesn't work as a middle name.

DeanaPiana · 17/04/2017 19:03

MadMags good suggestion but it's just too popular. Think I am now on the hunt for two syllable names, what a nightmare naming DC is!

INeedToEat · 17/04/2017 19:07

What about Athena Helena? Though I rather like Athena Blue.

MadMags · 17/04/2017 19:07

Two syllable middle names?

Clio?!

DeanaPiana · 17/04/2017 19:09

*MadMags yes middle names Smile

Choosing names is such bloody hard work.

Leda
Daphne

callmeadoctor · 17/04/2017 19:13

Quite like Athena Blue (if Athena has to be a definite). Love the name Gabrielle which could work as a middle. (Don't mind Chelsea too much as a middle name)

callmeadoctor · 17/04/2017 19:14

Not keen on Helen (seems old fashioned now)

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 17/04/2017 19:28

Love Athena Helen.
Prefer Chelsey, not like the football team.
Athena Chelsey/Chelsea doesn't go, n my opinion.

trulybadlydeeply · 18/04/2017 03:59

I think Athena Helen is nice, but the repeat of "en" in both names would put me off slightly, but that's only on seeing it written down, not sound.

How about:

Athena Dione
Athena Hermione
Athena Iris
Athena Chloe
Athena Chrysanthe
Athena Caris/Charis

You can't name a child something that used to be a retail outlet and a place - it's like calling your child Waitrose Clapham North!!
