Why the dislike for hyphenated names ? I'm quite offended. Nothing wrong with it at all
Just means I don't have a middle name.

CocoLoco87 · 26/02/2017 22:00

My DC's names haven't appeared! Win!!

My name has appeared a few times however, and apparently means I am a total bitch / bully and has been 'shuddered' at!

I'm actually not that bad once you get to know me Grin

LobsterQuadrille · 26/02/2017 22:02

kel1234 totally agree; mine has virtually been mentioned on here (I'm not a something-Mai though).

MrsBungle · 26/02/2017 22:03

Wow, my dc's names have not been mentioned - yet, I'm sure they will. Mine has, though, and I properly lolled that my name sounds like a "spoiled spaniel" 😄

Dizzywhore · 26/02/2017 22:04

Alfie-the worst
Lilah-just shit
Ashley-wishy washy
Anything lily-Rae Millie-may etc 😷
Sophia-a shit version of Sophie which is beautiful
Amelia- just no!

MorningHeavyWeight · 26/02/2017 22:04

Thanks Francis.

I find it lazy in any case when "surnames as first names" are referenced and the assumption is made that this refers only to less traditional names that can be used. How are we supposed to differentiate between what some pps find to be in the unacceptable category?

Both my sons have surnames as first names. One in the traditional category, one in the apparently offensive category. One of my sons is dead. I'm not offended that one of their names has been mentioned multiple times on this thread, however were it to be my dead son's name that had been listed again and again I would be infinitely more sensitive to that.

As I said upthread, lightheartedness can not be achieved on this topic.

I appreciate your contrition OP. For those who are finding this fun, I don't wish to spoil it for you, however I don't understand the amusement factor.

PennyPickle · 26/02/2017 22:05

WTF is wrong with Penny???!!!!! Grin (Try being called Penelope then Sad ) Still...I didn't choose it - but I'm the poor person who has to live with it Hmm Thanks a bunch mother!

RosaDeZoett · 26/02/2017 22:06

Ingrid
Imogen
Jacinta
Concepta
Imelda.
No reason, I just don't like the way they feel in my mouth.
And I have a love hate relationship with Ursula.... Ursoooola...... Urs-you-la.....
Urs-Uh-la. Depends on how I say it on any given day.
My name is mentioned, but not the dcs. I'm not offended Grin

PickledCauliflower · 26/02/2017 22:06

It's down to personal taste - and what the name means to them personally.

What someone may describe as "just no" may be a delightful name to others.

OnHold · 26/02/2017 22:09

Shit thread.

What's wrong with Phoebe? It's not too popular, not too unusual? Looks really pretty written down? I don't get it!

NowtAbout · 26/02/2017 22:15

Three out of four of my DC are on here. I'm waiting to shout bingo 😂

kel1234 · 26/02/2017 22:17

My son's name isn't on here I don't think. But the girls name we chose is. As are some of my family members names.
I'm all for our own opinions. But I don't understand why the dislike for hyphenated names?

RupertsMum2 · 26/02/2017 22:17

Ds3's name is mentioned 10, or possibly 11, times. It's actually not particularly popular here although I believe it's over used elsewhere. He is 1 of 2 in the school and I only know of 1 other I'm not offended.

I don't like
Wayne/Dwayne/Dwight
Violet/Ivy

kel1234 · 26/02/2017 22:18

Lobster- I'm not either. Just don't get it

tigerdriverII · 26/02/2017 22:18

yes because I'm an evil cow who enjoys making others sad

Yep, that just about sums it up.

It's an unkind thread: if you meant that some names make you feel weird, then say so. Don't dress up your chortling at all the "shuddery" names as a joke.

Here endeth the lesson

sonyaya · 26/02/2017 22:18

rosa

concepta? There's someone really called that?

smilingsarahb · 26/02/2017 22:20

I struggle to say Fleur. Other people say it and it sounds pretty. I say it and it sounds awful. I also struggle to say Ethan...an f keeps creeping in. So those names are fine unless I am saying them.

plimsolls · 26/02/2017 22:20

There's a massive difference between people saying "(name) is not to my taste" and "(name) sounds like the noise you make when being sick" or it's chavvy or its horrible or it reminds me of (something really nasty).

And yes lots of threads canvass opinions but they don't invite people to comment negatively on things that are not only really personal but also pretty permanent, such as the name you've already given your DC.

Munchkin1412 · 26/02/2017 22:20

Ava/Eva/Isabelle. Pretty but I know about 600. And why not Isobel which is (imo) the proper spelling. And shortened nicknames (Alfie, Archie etc) are fine but it should be the proper name on the birth certificate! If you don't want Archibald on the birth certificate you shouldn't be allowed Archie.

Thanks for letting me get that off my chest OP Confused

Notso · 26/02/2017 22:21

If you mean me itsmine you are right I shouldn't have clicked. I'm usually thick skinned when it comes to my kids names, they are always on these kind of threads but have had a reminiscing kind of day and feeling a bit emotional.

Notso · 26/02/2017 22:25
