I dislike the weird spellings of names. We named DS2 an unusual name but then realised that he'd never be able to get personalised gifts etc. with his name on. Pretty much like my real name (which is not unusual). I know of a Misty, which sounds like a dogs name.

I hate the names Dion & Shani as I was bullied by two bitches with those names.

Soubriquet · 28/02/2017 15:07

No Neveah is a popular little name now

Munchkin08 · 28/02/2017 15:20

Both of my daughters names on here 🤔

Siobhan
charity
Ffion
Danny

ShoutOutToMyEx · 28/02/2017 15:40

Are you only allowed to dislike names within your own culture then?

I've seen some posters on here mock widely used African/Caribbean names quite viciously for being 'ridiculous', 'made up', 'poor kid' etc. I usually put it down to people just not realising, but it's not hard to consider how those comments and attitudes could be received by people of that culture.

And of course, when you consider the wider context of how people of colour have been, and still are, treated by white culture - fewer opportunities, detrimental stereotyping just to name a couple of issues - it seems a bit more than distasteful.

Of course you can dislike any name, from any culture - but it's the taking the piss which I think has the potential to be damaging. I'm sure I'll get accused of being professionally offended, but those are just my thoughts.

Dipsydora · 28/02/2017 17:11

Debbi/ Debarah evil bully at school. Debbi P with the very blond hair if you are on here yes I do mean you!

Ok names which actually are just bad and get a whole medical team going oh dear are:-
Nevaeh yes we do judge the parents for this one. Not helped by every time one is named they tell you how it's heaven spelled backwards. Not clever and not unusual it's just branding the child from a low class family now. Not an urban miff btw I have met many!

Anything misspelled to be different is not looking good.

Made up, named after the drink the parents were consuming at conception, boys names on girls (just confusing) surnames as first names. These are the names we past on the smile and say oh how interesting as we triple check your spelling of it before putting it on the poor kids nhs record.

TheTartOfAsgard · 28/02/2017 17:14

I've seen a lot of names been mocked - recently Amberleigh, Tyree and Gracelynn - with the same 'poor kid' 'trailer trash' 'chav' comments.

I lived in a very multi-cultural part of London (featured on many channel 5 shows) and do admit to rolling my eyes a few times at names given to all races (worked in A+E so come across lots of people from all walks) but I do find it quite perplexing that as a white British it's ok for me express that 'Trigger' for a white child is a ridiculous name, but can't express my opinion that 'Box' for an African child is also ridiculous, for fear that I will be deemed racist and distasteful.

NoYouDontKnowItAll · 28/02/2017 18:31

Hugo, Angus, Dorcas, Brody, Ross, Sophie, Tamarin, Tamara, Jessica, Nadine, William, Beau, Romeo, Skandar and other posh names

Anyone naming their child after the place they were conceived and then advertising it as such like Brooklyn

AmyInTheBoonies · 28/02/2017 18:35

The name Ginnifer. Why do such a strange twist to the name Jennifer.

Fab idea Jazz

I love Phoebe too don't know why it's got such a negative response

Amy as a Jennifer I completely agree with the Ginnifer thing!

Rockaby · 28/02/2017 19:12

The names I love on here far outnumber the ones I don't like, but here are a few of the ones I love:

Jude
Seth
Christopher
Katherine
Jane
Wren
Miriam
Margot
Edward

MrsMeeseeks · 28/02/2017 19:17

Ginnifer Goodwin is really a Jennifer, but changed it so she'd stand out amongst all the millions of Jennifers in the USA (it's way more common over there than it is here).

NoYouDontKnowItAll · 28/02/2017 19:21

Ok names mentioned as dislikes on the thread but I like are

Darren
Matthew
Zoe
Megan
Ashley
Jodie
Dylan
Hayley

Some of my own childrens names are on that list and couldn't care less who doesn't like them, just like I wouldn't expect anyone to care what I think either. It's all opinion and taste nothing more and you can never please everyone

Would add Connie and Raquel to the horrible list though Grin

Jenniferturkington · 28/02/2017 19:31

Some people are awfully insecure to be upset that a stranger doesn't like their name choice.

I can't stand Lydia (I hear chlamydia) or Lucas (I hear mucus)

Fwiw I have only ever met great Jaydens so have very positive associations with the name.

BusterGonad · 28/02/2017 19:32

How very dare you Mumbod! 😂

GingerLDN · 28/02/2017 20:14

I wrote a big long list of names and forgot the one I've always disliked. Fiona.

Littlepiglittlepig3letmeIN · 28/02/2017 20:33

It's bloody ridiculous.

One of the posters said she disliked
Verity, Henry, Penelope, Porche, Maximillian and Georgina.
All very upper-middle class sounding names.

I find it very distasteful that people are making fun of predominantly white, middle class children's names.
It's really not on.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 28/02/2017 20:38

I really dislike the sound of the name Simon. My ex is called that, and always insisted on Simon not Si, but it just makes me feel funny when I say it. I'm not put off by the fact he is a complete bastard, I didn't like it before I knew him!

agnes158 · 28/02/2017 20:39

im not keen on the name Ann.

The names I like that have been mentioned on here are most of them!

Littlepiglittlepig3letmeIN · 28/02/2017 20:40

Fwiw I have only ever met great Jaydens so have very positive associations with the name.

I really dislike the name Jayden.

I also dislike Jade.
but I like Jay as a nickname or JJ Confused

Aeroflotgirl · 28/02/2017 20:42

Summah, Mackenzie, Araminta, skylar and Jaidon.

reuset · 28/02/2017 22:07

Agree about Araminta. It's a parody-type, stereotypical joke name

Also daft names the parents are considering whether they are brave enough to bestow on the poor child. It's the child who would have to be brave not the parents.

DayDreamsOfMaria · 28/02/2017 22:38

Colin
Rufus
Carmella
Bethany
Katherine, Catherine, Kathy, Katia, Kathryn
Susi, Susan, Susie and Suzanne

elQuintoConyo · 28/02/2017 23:01

Nowt wrong with Rufus. The delectable Mr Rufus Sewell springs to mind Smile

All Ruperts I have ever met have been daft as a brush - so I'd like to veto Rufus and replace with Rupert (despite lovely Rupert Graves! Damnation!!).
