Having baby today- no name if a girl

I have two DDs already, one flower name, one Irish name. Both have family names.

Names I like but can't use: Iris, Clover, Joni, Orla, Roisin, Ann/Annie, Nancy, Alannah, Cecilia, Ivy, Violet, Olivia, Ella, Rose...

I would like an Irish name (have Irish surname) but at this point we don't even have a short list of names.

Please help! I am a desperate non-sleeping pregnant lady.

Best wishes!

Probably stating the obvious, but Maeve?

Scarydinosaurs · 09/02/2017 03:25

Not a fan of Maeve- have a Mabel in the family...I can't see DH going for that, though I quite like it.

Thank you! I'm so excited to meet the new baby, but feel dreadful that if it is a girl she will be nameless!

Also- middle name must be Jane. Maeve Jane? Mabel Jane? Does it work?

Aine, Clodagh, Poppy, Katherine nn Katie, Lucy?

OuchBollocks · 09/02/2017 03:30

Also - today?? Eeek good luck!

Scarydinosaurs · 09/02/2017 03:48

Clodagh is a possibility. DH agreed to it, I like Clo...thank you for the suggestion- I'd forgotten this one.

Aine is lovely but too similar to my own name!

Congratulations and good luck OP!

Madigan? It means little dog and is Irish in origin. It's jolly, familiar because of 'Maddie' and easy for the layman to pronounce. Sort of connects to nature like your flower named dd. Did I mention it's cuuuuute :)

LiquoriceWheel · 09/02/2017 04:07

Madigan Jane!

Scarydinosaurs · 09/02/2017 04:26

I don't know if I could call a daughter little dog Grin though I will concede, it is super cute.

aww you mean Grainne right? All those poor Grainnes out there who never have their names spelt correctly 😆.

I love your list- Aoife is a possibility. It's a very pretty name and hasn't been used by my (extensive) Irish family in recent years...

When DH eventually awakes I will ask him.

Thanks so much! I feel like Clodagh, Mabel or Aoife could be 'the ones'. Aoife Jane I think is particularly nice.

When my English friend had her baby girl, I phoned to speak to he and her rather elderly Irish father in law answered the phone. I asked what they'd called the baby and he said, I can't remember, but I know it wasn't a proper name like Kathleen or Maureen ... So I'm guessing they're both old Irish names? I think Kathleen is nice.

She called her little girl Niamh by the way Smile

MessyBun247 · 09/02/2017 05:19

Siofra (Sheef-ra), Bronagh, Kate, Erin, Maria, Caoimhe,

SkyeCoo · 09/02/2017 05:25

I love Una. If DS had been a girl that would have been his name.
Good Luck with birth and baby, hope all goes well Flowers

CocoLoco87 · 09/02/2017 05:28

Aoife Jane sounds lovely!

SuperBeagle · 09/02/2017 07:25

I've always liked Niamh. I also feel it's a name that travels well. It's one that wouldn't get butchered here in Australia, for example, as it's widely enough used. It's very pretty, and sounds almost fairylike. I get the same vibe from Freya, FWIW.

SuperBeagle · 09/02/2017 07:25

Oh, and good luck and congrats! Flowers
