Having baby today- no name if a girl

Scarydinosaurs · 09/02/2017 03:17

I have two DDs already, one flower name, one Irish name. Both have family names.

Names I like but can't use: Iris, Clover, Joni, Orla, Roisin, Ann/Annie, Nancy, Alannah, Cecilia, Ivy, Violet, Olivia, Ella, Rose...

I would like an Irish name (have Irish surname) but at this point we don't even have a short list of names.

Please help! I am a desperate non-sleeping pregnant lady.

Orlagh
Aoife
Caoihme

AnnetteKertan · 09/02/2017 08:16

Aine

(Aoife is lovely and one Brits often know how to pronounce)

Graceymac · 09/02/2017 08:16

Roisin

Scarydinosaurs · 09/02/2017 08:36

Oh thank you so much- so many good suggestions!

So DH has vetoed all of the three I liked. Great.

Roisin- would love to use but already used in family.
Orla- see above.
Caoimhe cant agree with DH on this one. He likes it but wants to spell it the brutal English way. I can't bring myself to do that.
Bridie- family name but too close and can't be named after her.

Delphine is one of my favourite names, but DH refuses to consider it due to Peppa Bloody Pig.

More suggestions welcome!

I like Aoife.

What about
Bridget
Nora
Petra (ok not Irish!)

Therealloislane · 09/02/2017 08:45

Cliona (think it can be spelt Cliodhna too?)
Cara
Sorcha
Laoise
Deirdre
Emer (eimear)
I went to school with a Rionnach but have never met another.
Eilis
Maire (myra)

Therealloislane · 09/02/2017 08:47

The brutal English way? Keeva? Grin

Like when ds was born I wanted Eoghan, dh wanted Owen.

He's called neither.

What boys name have you chosen?

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 09/02/2017 08:47

I love Bridget and Clodagh. My favourite is Finola.

Artandco · 09/02/2017 08:49

If you like Delphine similar maybe?

Daphne
Delilah
Delphi

Scarydinosaurs · 09/02/2017 08:52

I like Aoife 😑 I can't help but feel DH is stupidly stubborn over it all. He liked Ava, Eva etc so is it so different?

We have the tricky problem of lots of Irish relatives on both sides and trying to not use names other people have used/name after relatives who are still alive etc.

Thanks for all the lovely suggestions. So many beautiful names- one of them has to be the right one!

Scarydinosaurs · 09/02/2017 08:55

art I love all of those. DH doesn't.

thereal yes- or some such monstrosity. I'm being hyperbolic, but I'm about to give birth so can I get away with it?

I love all of these names- but none of them feel right.

Maybe I can pass the time looking through my old Irish fairy tale books looking for inspiration...

Our boy name is impossibly dull and I didn't pick it. If I were to choose the boy name, I would pick something like Niall/Oisin/Patrick.

OP posts:
Artandco · 09/02/2017 09:07

Robyn
Sadie
Julia
Juliet
Nainsi

Artandco · 09/02/2017 09:08

I love Eiric for a boy

Scarydinosaurs · 09/02/2017 09:10

Art Nainsì was a strong contender, but I don't think it sounds right with Jane.

Considering Jane for the first name now. Gah.

Is Nainsì too much of a pain to spell?

I see all my girls names are mentioned as well as my own Halo.Irish names are the best. Good luck Scarydinosaurs hope your labour and birth goes smoothly.

babyblabber · 09/02/2017 09:14

Don't discuss them with your DH now, wait til after the baby is born!

I had our 4th baby on Tuesday and DH agreed to a name he had vetoed loads of times as he just wanted to name her and we couldn't agree!

Best of luck today. For what it's worth I love the meaning of Aisling. Aoife is great though, try that after baby arrives!

Hobbitch · 09/02/2017 09:14

Isolde?
Good luck with the birth!

NapQueen · 09/02/2017 09:16

What has dh suggested?

Therealloislane · 09/02/2017 09:20

Emma Jane. I know Emma isn't Irish though.

Emer Jane.

Finvola, Fionnuala, Bernadette, Caitlin, Mara, Colleen, Grace, Lara, Aisling, Aideen, Ciara (I love Ciara)

Dervla/Dearbhail

Angelto5 · 09/02/2017 09:34

If your dh likes Eva/Ava what about Evangeline?
It not very common , easy to spell and has many possible nn's.

avaj · 09/02/2017 09:49

Ida

avaj · 09/02/2017 09:49

Ida

Scarydinosaurs · 09/02/2017 09:50

angel I could get on board with Evangeline...I'm going to keep saying it in my head and see if it sticks.

thereal no, not Irish and lots of mean Emmas 😆 I must know about twenty- though it is a lovely name!

nap you may well ask! Bugger all! He suggested Clodagh again the other day. I'm about 90% on Clodagh.

hob thank you! Isolde is unusual, I could get on board with jt- but can't repeat initials, already have an I.

baby wise advice! I shall keep quiet until after the baby is born!

maud there is something nice about seeing your own name come up, isn't there!

Ok so current contenders are:

Evangeline
Clodagh
Get DH to agree to Aoife
Nainsì

Cora or Ceit/Cait
Good luck for today x
