I've never posted on mn before but am due with baby number three next month and my husband and I are still undecided on names. With dd1 and dd2 we had them chosen almost from the beginning but this time we keep changing our minds! So I'm interested to hear what everyone thinks. In no particular order here is our shortlist for both boy and girl...

Boy:
Raphael
Harrison
Ioan
Wilf
Rusty

Girl:
Callista
Vivia
Eden
Mirabel
Pearl
Ophelia

Harrison is my absolute favourite boys name!! It's the only one I really like off your boys list...

I like Callista and Eden off your girls list with a preference for Eden Smile

MitzyLeFrouf · 04/01/2017 18:25

I like Raphael and Eden the best.

Rusty seems a tad um, incongruous on that list! 😅

reuset · 04/01/2017 18:29

Rusty Shock How did that one slip in there?

Ioan for boys. Callista, if forced to choose one, for a girl.

reuset · 04/01/2017 18:30

Honestly, Rusty? Really?

I'm still in shock Grin

RenovatingHouseWithKids · 04/01/2017 18:34

Hahaha, that's brilliant, I did sort of add Rusty in quite recently... maybe it's the baby brain! See this is why it's great to have your opinions, it was my favourite for a while! Right, Rusty is being scrapped!

Raphael is lovely and so is Ophelia I know a little Ophelia and she is so beautiful everyone calls her Philly
Good luck with your baby

1horatio · 04/01/2017 18:51

Definitely Raphael! That's a great name.

I really dislike Pearl. But your other girl's names are fabulous. Callista and Vivia are really lovely.

ChocoChou · 04/01/2017 18:52

Harrison and Vivia.... lovely.

Wilf is awful not to my taste Grin. I had a pet fly I called Wilf when I was younger Grin

RenovatingHouseWithKids · 04/01/2017 19:08

Oh your replies are making me giggle. A fly called Wilf! Love it!

I never thought of Philly as a nickname for Ophelia but that makes me like it even more.

I realise most of our names won't be to everyone's taste but it's great to hear the absolutely awful or wonderful verdicts.

One thing I really like about Raphael is the nickname possibilities. Raffi, Rafa, Rafe. And of course Raphael itself! We did consider Raphaela for a girl too but might be a bit of a mouthful.

Thanks so much for your replies everyone!

You know OP, I like Rusty, but as a nick name for Russell.
From your list, I like, Harrison, Eden and Pearl.
Vivia, at first glance, looks like Vulva 😳

LadyMarmyLard · 04/01/2017 19:36

Harrison and Eden are my favourites.

Artandco · 04/01/2017 19:41

Ioan looks too much like Loan

RenovatingHouseWithKids · 04/01/2017 20:02

I hear you about the Loan thing artandco. It had crossed my mind but I love Ioan Gruffudd so think that has clouded my judgement!

Oh no not a lady parts sounding name! I'm loving Vivia so much! If too many people think the same thing I might have to scrap it 😞. I couldn't do that to a child!

Russell has always made me think of rustling noises which for some reason bothers me. Thanks for the vote of confidence though sugar pie!

Re Ophelia: I had therapy last year and the therapist was called Opelia. When I told DP he made a LOT of jokes about her name. I know he was being mean (I think he was trying to cheer me up but that's not really relevant) and I'm not trying to be mean to you, but it really is a name which will cause the mickey to be taken.

RenovatingHouseWithKids · 04/01/2017 20:23

Russian Coffee I think I know what you might be referring to. As in boys asking for 'a feel of your' (insert body part)? Is that right? Ugh. I was hoping that would be something not many would pick up on. Hmmm. Rethink time.

I love Raphael. I like Callista, Pearl, Mirabelle and Vivia from your girls list, although I prefer Viviana.

thebakerwithboobs · 04/01/2017 20:34

Do you pronounce Ioan Yo-an?

Glitterous · 04/01/2017 20:34

Vivia sounds like a toddler mispronouncing Olivia (sorry, to any Vivia's out there!)

You could have Russell and call him Rusty.....

I like Raphael but that's it I'm afraid.

RenovatingHouseWithKids · 04/01/2017 20:38

That's right thebakerwithboobs. Although a bit more like Yo-uhn when I really think through the phonics of it.

thebakerwithboobs · 04/01/2017 20:40

That's what I thought-I LOVE it. It's particularly lovely in a Welsh accent but that's the one that gets my vote Smile

1horatio · 04/01/2017 20:41

I would have never thought that Vivia looks like Vulva. And I love the meaning of Vivia. But I have name Viviana on my list, which probably makes me biased.;)
I also know 2 women called Raphaela (actually, one is Raffaela), and it's fabulous imo.
One of my favourite names is Olympia (I'm probably going to suggest it to everybody because I just like it this much. Which is admittedly slightly silly...😉)

thebakerwithboobs · 04/01/2017 20:41

I don't know why but Callista always reminds me of an STD Blush

RenovatingHouseWithKids · 04/01/2017 20:56

1horatio you might also like Octavia, it's one I really like. With our similar taste I thought I'd suggest it to you too!

Oh thanks for pointing that out about Callista, baker. Always good to get told the possible associations. I totally agree, in a Welsh accent Ioan is so soft sounding but at the same time a solid name.

Love Wilf and Raphael.

Love Eden and Ophelia.

Raines100 · 04/01/2017 21:30

Mirabel is nice. I also misread Vivia as vulva at first glance Blush . Agree Viviana is much nicer, beautiful in fact, and Vivi is such a cute nn.

For a boy, I like Raphael or Harrison.

Have you considered Wigbert?
