Anyone met a baby/child called calais?

Dd named calais and wondered if anyone had heard it before/opinions (good or bad) on it.
I'd never heard it as a name until oh mentioned it but I love it now

Callie FAR better and sound the same. Why would you want to name your child after a rather grim French port? Callie however pretty and unusual. Could be short for Calliope (Greek mythological muse of poetry).

Never heard it as a name....not saying it's bad, but it does conjure up images of asylum seekers at the french port to me. Would Callie be an alternative option?

I wanted callie but oh didn't like it so calais was a compromise.

I've never come across a Calais before, but there are plenty of Brittanys and Parises around, so why not?

I teach a Calais. This may out me. I may have to name change now, haha. Not my preference, but she seems to have coped with it!

To answer the OP, no I've never heard of a child named Calais. When I hear the name all I think of is the misery of thousands of people living under tarpaulin, chikdren playing in mud and hunger.
