A brother for Artemisia

Originally it was going to be Lucian...yep we are those parents. But we got cold feet and decided it was too wanky even for us. (I love Lucian to any Lucian owners, but we thought in combination with Artemisia, it was a bit...hmm)

So then, after much discussion, the only name we could agree on, was Milo. But we have now come across, not one, not two, but THREE dogs called Milo. Apparently it is in the top ten dog names in the UK. This has... put us off. And we don't like Miles.

Names I like, which DH has roundly rejected:

Tobias
Marcus
Sebastian
Casper
Silas
Felix

Anyone got any good suggestions, before we name our son this generation's equivalent of Rex?

I am 39+6 and getting a bit worried that we seem to have NO candidates. DH has been totally unable to come up with any suggestions.

I met a baby Zebedee a couple of years ago. I rather like that.

Otherwise:

Hector
Icarus
Jasper
Tristan
St John

Good luck! Love a name thread Smile

NegativeIron · 27/09/2015 22:25

I love Lucius..

If you don't mind Popes, then Hadrian, the only English Pope, as well as a rather ace emperor.

Aurelian, or Aurelius
Aubrey.

Frederick.

I love Gideon but a few smart Alecs will ask you if you see naming him after the Chancellor.

Good luck. Thinking raspberry tea thoughts to you.

I went to school in the 'arty' area of a major city. I had boys in my class called Gulliver and Titus. Didn't seem odd to me, but in hindsight they were a bit exotic for the 70s!

I have a Ben - he's lovely :-)

QuickQuickNo · 28/09/2015 20:36

Probably already been said, but it's just definitely got to be Xerxes

So jealous, I desperately wanted Artemisia (am Persian) but a second boy put paid to that.

captaincake · 28/09/2015 20:46

I immediately thought Ptolemy.

^^

Some of the poshest names I've come across in real life:

Orlando
Joleyon (sp?)
Tristan
Jonty
Monty (Montgomery)
Benedict
Maximillian
Maximus
Tiberius
Cosmo
Rafi
Ferdi

NationMcKinley · 29/09/2015 07:08

Ooooo I love Orlando. What about Amos? Too earthy?

WhatsGoingOnEh · 29/09/2015 07:11

Colin.

Jolyon is the usual spelling, manic (features in The Forsyte Saga, so I got used to it!).

I do like Gabriel, the more I think about it. Hope that baby's put in an appearance by now!

Gotheftosleep · 29/09/2015 07:38

OP this thread has made me smile because it reminds me of the pain we went through to find DS's name.

We named him Lucian Benedict. I LOVE it. DD also has a slightly poncy name and they work so well together. We call him Luc for short.

(I've namechanged for this because it will out me)

Has baby arrived yet?! Hope you are all ok!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 29/09/2015 07:42

Lovely name, Gothef! When you say Luc for short, do you mean pronounced like Luke or more like Loosh or Loose?

Gotheftosleep · 29/09/2015 15:24

Thank you Gasp0de! We pronounce it 'Luke'.

CakeRattleandRoll · 29/09/2015 17:38

Benedict, Linus, Magnus all great!

myotherusernameisbetter · 29/09/2015 17:59

No sign of the OP since Sunday evening - hope a squishy baby had arrived :)

LaContessaDiPlump · 29/09/2015 18:05

Dh wanted to call DS1 either Iorweth, Cadwallader or Leith. He is none of these!

Hope you've had an arrival by now op Grin

ediepop · 29/09/2015 21:28

No, I'm still here and still pregnant. Sad

Gothef you clearly have excellent taste Grin

You can't still be pregnant! I call wind.... :o

ediepop · 29/09/2015 21:59

God, I wish I could just do massive guff and it would all go away. DD was 2 weeks late, so I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. Off for monitoring on Thursday.

myotherusernameisbetter · 29/09/2015 22:04

It would also be a lot cheaper if it was wind :)

myotherusernameisbetter · 29/09/2015 22:25

Speaking of wind - how about Zephyr? goes well I think.

sleepyelectricsheep · 29/09/2015 22:43

Taliesin (6th century Welsh poet, and also see the wonderful Tale of Taliesin from the Mabinogion)

sleepyelectricsheep · 29/09/2015 22:44

^^ NN Tali

ediepop · 29/09/2015 22:48

I like Zephyr. A to Z. Nice. DH will never ever ever consider it in a million years though.
It would be cheaper if I just had some serious gas issues..not to mention easier than going into labour. But quite attached to the thought of my little boy now. I just wish he'd bestir himself to make an appearance. Out out out! Mama's had enough.

myotherusernameisbetter · 29/09/2015 22:57

I wish mine were still little - as much as i love having 2 teenage boys that is :o
