A brother for Artemisia

Originally it was going to be Lucian...yep we are those parents. But we got cold feet and decided it was too wanky even for us. (I love Lucian to any Lucian owners, but we thought in combination with Artemisia, it was a bit...hmm)

So then, after much discussion, the only name we could agree on, was Milo. But we have now come across, not one, not two, but THREE dogs called Milo. Apparently it is in the top ten dog names in the UK. This has... put us off. And we don't like Miles.

Names I like, which DH has roundly rejected:

Tobias
Marcus
Sebastian
Casper
Silas
Felix

Anyone got any good suggestions, before we name our son this generation's equivalent of Rex?

I am 39+6 and getting a bit worried that we seem to have NO candidates. DH has been totally unable to come up with any suggestions.

Urban.

Sounds modern, but also a pope.

NegativeIron · 26/09/2015 12:17

Has anyone said Jasper yet ?

(JD, he and Venetia are prob my fave characters in the oeuvre)

GrouchyKiwi · 26/09/2015 12:42

(I love finding more people who read Heyer.)

NegativeIron · 26/09/2015 13:04

Grouchy, I could prob compete for Europe on GH.

Gruach · 26/09/2015 13:12

NegativeIron - 40 years ago (Shock) I could have said the same. I've read nothing of hers since then but perhaps it's where my own taste for flowery names originates.

JasperDamerel · 26/09/2015 13:31

Maybe there is a link between love of Georgette Heyer and a fondness for somewhat OTT names. I can see how that might be the case.

ediepop · 26/09/2015 18:50

Love Jasper. And DH actually not unkeen. But a good friend named her DS this when he was born in June, and while no one owns a name etc, I'd feel awkward about it.

Definitely not Urban though. That just means 'city' to me. Pope or not.

What about Louis? Then you can sing What a Wonderful World to him. Grin

Phidias is probably the most famous Classical Greek sculptor. Hieronymus (Bosch) would cause horrendous spelling/pronunciation problems. Edgar? (for Degas) Salvador (Dali)? Pablo (Picasso)? Claude?

ediepop · 26/09/2015 19:20

The thing about all the famous artist names, while excellent names (perhaps excepting Hieronymus), they are not artists that DH and I have particular connections with. Artemisia was chosen because I know quite a lot about her one way and another and she is a bit of a heroine of mine. Lucian and Francis for similar reasons. I totally see why you would make the suggestions though.

Julian/Jude
Jeremy/Jem
Hayden
Aldrid
Dexter
Miles
Duncan
Bartholomew
William
Lucas

mathanxiety · 26/09/2015 19:50

Art related:
Emil
Vasily - or Basil
August
Oskar
Max

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 26/09/2015 22:36

Not art related, but Gideon is a good name.

One of Turner's names was Mallord, which I rather like, but I suppose it might get confused with Milord or with a duck, so perhaps not a good idea.

However, I agree with others that Lucian is a good name and goes with Artemisia.

Vixxfacee · 26/09/2015 22:51

Luscious loo ssush

Vixxfacee · 26/09/2015 22:52

Lucious*
Actually I don't know how to spell it .

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 27/09/2015 13:47

Lucius. Pron Looseeuss or possibly Looshyuss.

MitzyLeFroof · 27/09/2015 14:27

Or call him Looseeuss Looshyuss.

Tell 'em it's Dutch. Old family name.

ediepop · 27/09/2015 20:31

Luscious Lucius. I like it. Quite a ring to it.

Benedict now in pole position, overtaking Alexander according to DH. I am...unsure. Mostly because I don't want to be mistaken for some sort of rabid Cumberbatch fan girl, if I'm honest.

Quite interested to see so many people rate our original choice of Lucian. Maybe we need to rethink it a bit.

Meanwhile, at casa pop, I am 40+6. Why? Whyyyy, do I apparently need to incubate my babies for 10 months? DD was 2 weeks late as well. Gahh.

myotherusernameisbetter · 27/09/2015 20:47

Benedict is fab honestly - it goes well with Artemesia and is neither too plain or too fancy - Lucian is nice but a bit wet, Alexander is nice but a bit plain with DDs name.

Tell him to get a shift on, he is clearly far too comfy in there!

yumyumpoppycat · 27/09/2015 21:09

I like Benedict a lot! Maybe you will be able to decide once you see him. DD3 was 10 days old when we sorted her name

myotherusernameisbetter · 27/09/2015 21:24

You do realise that if you call him Benedict I am officially entitled to a 1/3rd share in him - or at the very least a cuddle? :o

ediepop · 27/09/2015 21:40

Ooh, was Benedict your suggestion originally myotherusername? All thanks go to you, we wouldn't have considered it otherwise. If we do use it, you can definitely have a cuddle and some BrewCake Grin

Not read all the suggestions However I thought Horatio.

myotherusernameisbetter · 27/09/2015 21:55

Cool - I love baby boys, mine are over 6 foot now so aren't so squishy and cute :)
