A brother for Artemisia

Originally it was going to be Lucian...yep we are those parents. But we got cold feet and decided it was too wanky even for us. (I love Lucian to any Lucian owners, but we thought in combination with Artemisia, it was a bit...hmm)

So then, after much discussion, the only name we could agree on, was Milo. But we have now come across, not one, not two, but THREE dogs called Milo. Apparently it is in the top ten dog names in the UK. This has... put us off. And we don't like Miles.

Names I like, which DH has roundly rejected:

Tobias
Marcus
Sebastian
Casper
Silas
Felix

Anyone got any good suggestions, before we name our son this generation's equivalent of Rex?

I am 39+6 and getting a bit worried that we seem to have NO candidates. DH has been totally unable to come up with any suggestions.

what about Rufus? Only know one, it is a bit weird and posh but I still like it. Although I guess there may still be some dogs named Rufus.

RiverTam · 25/09/2015 21:29

BIL is a Benedict, it's a lovely name. Alexander nn Sasha would be nice.

There's a Horace at DD's school. And there was a Thorin at her nursery (yes, it's that kind of area Smile).

What about Otto?

thaliablogs · 25/09/2015 21:31

Horatio! I wanted to call DS horatio but got vetoed by DH. You sound brave enough to use it.

dementedma · 25/09/2015 21:32

Caspian

Misnomer · 25/09/2015 21:45

You definitely can't go for Linus. He was the kid in Peanuts who always had flies around him.

I like Ptolemy. Atticus is great but too alliterative under the circumstances. Benjamin is really sweet. Casper was on my list (with the friendly ghost spelling!). I love Rufus too. I really like Francis too but not the abbreviations.

Artandco · 25/09/2015 21:51

Rudyard, nn Rudi

Mintyy · 25/09/2015 21:53

Paris

myotherusernameisbetter · 25/09/2015 21:56

Edwin or Edgar maybe

or Barnaby nn Barny?

myotherusernameisbetter · 25/09/2015 21:57

Frederick?

FairNotFit · 25/09/2015 21:59

Nicholas

or Geoff

I kind of think it'd be worse to have a really 'sensible' name for your DS. It would be too different from DD. I think it'd be better to choose a more unusual one so they are similar, IYSWIM. But one with a simpler nickname perhaps

nauticant · 25/09/2015 22:02

That was Pigpen. Although there's a thought OP...

fuzzpig · 25/09/2015 22:03

I'm trying to persuade DH about the name Ezra. Not that it matters as we are nowhere near pregnant. But still, it's the principle :o

I also love Silas and Elias. He doesn't like them either, the git.

Chillywhippet · 25/09/2015 22:06

Yes to PP saying about one sibling with common name and one unusual.

I know two grown up brothers called Steve and Roman

What about Ingram?

Chillywhippet · 25/09/2015 22:08

Inigo
Rupert

Tirfarthoinn · 25/09/2015 22:10

Jago

I mockingly tried to convince DS 2 to change his name to Jago today - he actually considered it for at least ten seconds Grin

Tirfarthoinn · 25/09/2015 22:11

Jokingly not mockingly

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 25/09/2015 22:11

Benjamin is nice, as is Marcus.

I have never met either a child or a dog called Milo. To me it is exclusively a Tweenie. Quite a nice name all the same.

Doilooklikeatourist · 25/09/2015 22:12

Go a bit Jilly and call him
Alizarin
Cerulean
Pthalo

Efferlunt · 25/09/2015 22:14

Magnus? Fits with you DD's name not too pretentious

nauticant · 25/09/2015 22:20

What about Magnum? You can have Ptolemy and Inigo as middle names.

ediepop · 25/09/2015 22:30

Right! I have got DH drunk in a mellow mood and read out some of your suggestions. We have a list of all names we agree are still in play:

Alexander
Benedict
Lucian
Francis
Linus
Magnus
Milo

Faintly surprised he agreed to Linus. Think it might be something to do with me pointing out it's the creator of Linux's name. Also surprised by Benedict. Apparently it's his second favourite after Alexander. Am still worried about the Cumberbatch Effect though..

We may be getting somewhere. Hurrah!
