A brother for Artemisia

Originally it was going to be Lucian...yep we are those parents. But we got cold feet and decided it was too wanky even for us. (I love Lucian to any Lucian owners, but we thought in combination with Artemisia, it was a bit...hmm)

So then, after much discussion, the only name we could agree on, was Milo. But we have now come across, not one, not two, but THREE dogs called Milo. Apparently it is in the top ten dog names in the UK. This has... put us off. And we don't like Miles.

Names I like, which DH has roundly rejected:

Tobias
Marcus
Sebastian
Casper
Silas
Felix

Anyone got any good suggestions, before we name our son this generation's equivalent of Rex?

I am 39+6 and getting a bit worried that we seem to have NO candidates. DH has been totally unable to come up with any suggestions.

And here's to a swift and easy delivery...

Jude
Joshua
Joel
Jabez
Jacob

Can I chuck Dominic into the hat? Nic or Nico for short.

ediepop · 25/09/2015 23:31

Negative Iron Grin Love it. Quite fancied Electra for DD as it happens Wink

Funny you should mention Jacob. It transpires DH is Very Keen on Jacob nn Jake. But DD's Best Friend is called Jacob and as he also lives 2 doors down, I think it would be a bit off. Plus I am fairly indifferent to it as a name, so have vetoed.

I don't mind Jacob but Jake is horrible, by the same token, I like joshua but hate Josh.

Jonah (Joe for nn)

NegativeIron · 25/09/2015 23:39

Ansel
Anselm ( just think, if you keep the As, only one set if name tapes)
Sandro instead of Alexander
Edgar
Eustace
Edward
Claud/Claude
Laurence/Lorenzo

myotherusernameisbetter · 25/09/2015 23:40

Or how about good steady John with Jack as nn

NegativeIron · 25/09/2015 23:40

Love Jonas, like Jonah

yumyumpoppycat · 25/09/2015 23:46

Lucius?
Rafferty
Aeneas (not really but it sort of goes)
Theodore
Orion

NegativeIron · 25/09/2015 23:46

John, ian, Iain, gian, jan, Giovanni, Sean

Jonathan

James, Jacopo, Iago, Jacobus, Jack.

This us fun. DS's names were pre ordained. I wanted about 50 babies just for the pleasure if naming them.

Hilary, Hilaire, like Benn ( a really nice person) or Belloc ( not).

Perhaps I'm not taking thus seriously enough...Wink

Discover his saint's name when he arrives, and see if he looks like a Michael or cornelius or whatever.

Sorry to but in, but I'm northern and sometimes when you lot write pronounced I then have to ask is it long or short A Smile
So Ralph, locally, is pronounced Rarf upthread it was pronounced "rafe" is that a regional difference or plain wrong

ediepop · 26/09/2015 08:32

Rafe is the traditional pronunciation. Ralf is a modern variant.

violetwellies · 26/09/2015 08:35

So pronounced Rarf not Ralf (who is in his 70s) is a regional variant?

Gruach · 26/09/2015 08:35

Thelonius.

But I still like Lucian and Francis.

violetwellies · 26/09/2015 08:39

I love Vincent btw.

BathtimeFunkster · 26/09/2015 08:50

You shouldn't have changed from Lucian, it's by far the best name on your new list and works best with Artemisia.

Why is it OK to give his daughter an outrageously poncy name, but not his son?

[I am a fan of the poncy, BTW, but I think you need to be consistent with it. Artemisia and Alexander is terrible.]

Tirfarthoinn · 26/09/2015 09:29

I'm a fan of poncy too, most of my family had been named in this thread Grin but what is considered poncy now may change for e.g my brother is Oliver which in 1970s Ireland was rediculously poncy, not so much any more.
