Found out I'm expecting 1 and a half weeks ago, we are all so excited! I already have 2 DDs, Lyra and Renn who absolutely insist the baby is called Elsa (wonder where THAT came from) On the realistic side of things, DH and I still had a shortlist from last DD Renn and and with a bit of editing we have another. Tell me what you think, how do they fit with Renn and Lyra?

Girls:
Gabriella- It seems a bit too girly but I do like it
Crescent- Hadn't heard of this one before, but I really like it!
Eleanor- Quite like it, still...
Winter- Pretty good!
Emily- Perhaps too common but with a lot of charm!
Erin- I really like this one- like really
... And Elsa? I won't admit it to DDs, but I do actually like this name although am hesitating to put it on the list cuz of Frozen... I like strong girl names, which have all different channels of interpretation in them.

Boys:
Bear- LOVE this one sooooo much
Torak- Equal with Bear
Hawk- Yesssss
Eric- This one is lovely!
Needs more adding to it tho... I like really natural inspired uncommon boys names (but not totally weird) with character!

XD going to stay up all night and wait, so excited!!!

Arf at dismissing a name as it sounds like a Japanese anime character (it is btw) when your current child and potential favourite boys name are also Anime characters.

Oh, and so is Lyra.

Lyra is an anime character?!

I like Winter, Emily, Elsa and Eric.

There is a Lyra in both Full Metal Alchemist and also in Pokemon.

Ds2 suggests Goku for a boy.

OP, are you a fan of Michelle Paver's Chronicles of Ancient Darkness by any chance? As I know the main character is a boy named Torak and his female interest is Renn. As such I'd say avoid Torak for a boy just in case anyone makes this connection (unlikely as these books are fairly old now but could happen).

I really like Elsa, it's lovely and I think you could use it after 2 children. I also think Winter matches your other children's names well. I like Eleanor and Emily but I think they're a little too common to match your DDs names.

From your boy's I do like Eric, very sweet, but it doesn't quite match Lyra and Renn.

For a boy, may I suggest Finn, Flynn, Glenn, Rowan and Ash.
I really do like Elsa for a girl.

Your daughters have good taste. Ask them to choose a boy's name.

Oh wow thank you everyone for more great suggestions!

Quinoa, Talked with DH about Renn and Erin he agrees with you so sadly Erin is off the list, so is Crescent. Eleanor and Elsa appear to be popular, so they're remaining firmly in the list. Mila is quite pretty and in longlist but not so sure about Nina. Eric is from DH's side of the family, so still debating over that- same with Bear. Wolf is a great suggestion, after discussion with DH, it's replaced Hawk in shortlist, thank you!

Purple- Not aware of the itv show, neither is DH, probably won't let that affect name decisions.

Flora- Am I negative? Hope not ??. Renn is scandanavian and comes from the word 'free'. I like the name Wren too but like Renn better. Didn't actually choose Lyra because of Northern lights, and 'Torak' wolf brother associations aren't recognised among friends+ family. I'm sorry my tastes in names aren't the same as yours but I'm glad you like Elsa!

Wanker- I do like Elsa a lot more, find it less common and more attractive. Not very fond of suggested names, but Ivo is quite nice for a boy! Unfornatuely DH likes Cairn and I don't and I like Ivo and he doesn't so big knot! Ps. Wasn't aware of manga associations and don't really see it as a barrier.

Say- Thank you very much! From girls I ADORE Sorrel and it is now in the longlist (we're taking it to relatives this weekend) and Seth and Tiger from boys. Thank you!

Manic- Yes both are from a book called wolf brother (never read it) found that out from a mother of a friend of Lyra's. I don't think it's that well known and I Love these names too much to take them off. You're very welcome, have time off work at the moment, and love doing these critiques!

Mutter- I'm glad you like them, see my answer to Flora from where I got Renn. Glad you like Bear, very mixed views so it's on longlist. Just realised that with Kasper, but I prefer it many miles ahead of Casper (stubborn me). Eleanor I agree is nice, Elsa I like very much- and if baby is a DD and that's her name, I'll try to crack down on the Frozen association as much as possible. Very sweet of you!

Cake- Thank you for commenting, if we choose Elsa we'll probably just have it as it is, as we're not uber fond of long forms of it. Didn't get the names from Wolf Brother, thought not many people knew this book and am really trying to avoid connection as I love these two names. DH and I are still discussing having Bear as a nickname, but Edward while nice is too common for us. Quite like Celeste as a girls name will discuss it with DH after DDs have gone to bed.

2- Quite like Otto from your boys names, but DH has vetoed, but thank you for commenting!

Fly- See above comments as to Wolf Brother. As before, Elsa is a definite favourite, and I think it may be number 1 at the moment- DDs will be delighted! From your boys, Rowan is on the longlist and will discuss Ash later!

Marisola- They say 'Can we call him Kristoff?' XD Frozen obsessed little kiddies, they'll go nuts if baby is called Elsa.

Please keep suggestions coming, very much appreciated!

Did you not like any of my second list? Glad to see that Rowan has made the longlist - I adore it! DD2 was going to be it, if she turned out to be ds.

My others were:

Ashley/Asher
Bradley
Lee
Bertram
Drew
Edmund
Wynn

Sorry, but I really, really don't like Hawk or Hunter. Bear could be a v sweet nickname (for Edward or Edmund maybe?) but I don't like it as a given name.

More boys (I think you have a lot of girl choice there!)
Otis
Jesse
Beck (a stream), I know one and love it
Kristoff is pretty cool!

Oh, how about Isis for a girl? Kristin? (nod to kristoff!)

I think Wolf is Renn and Torak's clan name/second name in Chronicles of Darkness and he has a wolf companian. You are really getting a theme going on here OP :)

We had Blaven floating about for a while for a boy - it's a dramatic mountain in Skye.

Remus- No, I totally did! Just that I got v. Tired, plus DDs had to have baths, so had to stop critiquing- I do like Rowan! I like Hunter a lot, a suggestion from another poster, and Hawk is on longlist, but still discussing.

Merry- Otis is lovely, now in longlist, after discussion with DH is better than Otto! Isis for me is too much like ISIS and not really fond of it as a name anyway. Thanks for commenting!

Wanker- Ah really?! Hidden connections ??... Blaine is nice for a boy, DH just out doing something so I'll ask him when he gets back.

Blaine - is that the chap in, 'Pretty in Pink' or have I imagined that? It is definitely a psychotic train in a Stephen King novel, if that matters. :)

Remus- Gah no, I meant Blaven from Wanker's post. :)

Oh yeah, ISIS kind of ruined Isis. Always thought it was a good name.

Cleo?

I reckon it's a boy though. Randomly.

Report
Falconwolf101 · 11/06/2015 19:26

Merry- True, I guess people have negative inclinations it now. Cleo is probably not for us, although (oddly) seems like a great name for our new kitty as one of our cats is pregnant (we live on a farm btw). We are going for a scan on Saturday evening, because I just have to know the gender!

I thought of you today OP and suddenly remembered the name Thor! Such a fab and ancient name.

Report
QuinoaLenghi · 11/06/2015 20:07

Falcon- if you only found out you were expecting one a half weeks ago then no scan is going to show much, let alone gender...

Report
Falconwolf101 · 11/06/2015 20:12

Quinoa- Had been suspecting for quite a long time actually (around a month) and I think might have even been there before then, the doctor thinks there may be more than one as bump is quite big. As for Thor, wow gave DH a great laugh (Thor, avengers, X-men fan)

My friend has an Elsa (before frozen hit the screens) and I too love it. Funnily enough when I read your post I thought how well Elsa fitted before you quickly threw in 'it would mot happen because of frozen'. In a few years Frozen will have died down so don't let that be your decider. I love your current names by the way - gorgeous. For a boy I also think Bear is amazing I also like Blaize.
