Just that really. I have a shortlist but would rather not go for anything that's overly popular. So instead of me telling you the names, could you say what names you hear a lot?! Smile

Based purely on the names of children in DD's pre-school & the children of friends I would say;

Olivia
Ellie (often hyphenated with something else such as May or Rose)
Lily
Amelia
Emelia
Maddie (for both Madeleine & Maddison)
Maisie
Isabelle/Isabella/Bella etc.
Lily
Imogen

These are all nice names however (with the exception of Imogen).

I don't think you can second guess what will happen with a name. Zoe, for example - I know of several young Zoes. Repeated in some classes here. Yet NO Eves or Ava's in the entire school where I work and only one of each in dd's school. Pretty harsh to say you have failed if your child's name is repeated. Maybe we should use identifying names like NeverSleepsThroughAtWeekends or ChewsWipes. My dd would be SnortsLikeAPigletWhenEating.

Against the MN vein, I actively tried to give my DC Claire/Louise/Sarah type names rather than anything unusual. I have no doubt they will stand out from the crowd if they wish and they will stand out because of what they do. Sometimes, though, it is nice to be able to blend in too and their names will, i hope give them that option.

Phoebe

There are Phoebes everywhere.

wesH · 24/04/2015 13:57

few years ago you couldnt walk down a street without hearing some nasal parent shouting "lily! ruby! amelia!" after their terrible tots; Lily and Amelia are still very popular but Im hearing less rubies lately. Now there's a whole influx of little Islas and quite a few Avas too.

GatoradeMeBitch · 24/04/2015 14:48

Imogen is an odd one. There are a few locally to me too. Maybe it foreshadows a return of the Carols and Sharons Grin

My own name has been mentioned frequently on this thread, I don't know any other adults who share my name but there are legions of under fives. I quite like it that it is now popular.

flowerygirl · 27/04/2015 17:25

To all those saying 'choose a name you like rather than worry about popularity', the OP did say she didn't want a popular name. It's confusing for loads of kids to be called Lily. If your DD is called Amelia, I'm sure she's absolutely lovely but when you introduce your child with it's overly popular name, I just think meh.

Names I hear all the time...Evie, Lily, Lola, Ruby, Amelia and Isabella/Isobel.

There were so many Sarah's/Laura's in my year at school it was ridiculous. They all ended up being called nicknames.

CrispyFern · 27/04/2015 17:44

Lily, Lola, Isla, Layla, etc
Molly, Milly, Tilly, Ellie, Ella etc
Maya, Mia, Maia etc
Scarlett and Charlotte
Darcey

Evie, Ellie, Lily, Grace.

LittleIda · 27/04/2015 19:54

Amelia, Ruby

LittleIda · 27/04/2015 20:14

Angels mentioned earlier that her dd's class had an Ella, 2 x Bella and 2 x Isabella. They are going to all look round every time they hear the Ella sound!

susurration · 28/04/2015 14:23

of my friends with children there are quite a few Daisy, Lily, Grace, Ella and Evie or Evelyns.

Rhubarbgarden · 28/04/2015 20:06

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned Beatrice/trix. I know loads.

Tilly is the commonest though. Tripping over them here.

anxiousannie10 · 28/04/2015 21:40

Lilly, Rose, Ruby, Lola, Willow. All nice but far too popular now.

anxiousannie10 · 28/04/2015 21:47

I forgot to add, violet and Sienna. Lovely but now hugely popular.
