What girls names do you hear all the time?

Just that really. I have a shortlist but would rather not go for anything that's overly popular. So instead of me telling you the names, could you say what names you hear a lot?! Smile

Sophie and Sophia..endlessly!

CornChips · 22/04/2015 14:58

Oh, so many pretty names for girls, popular or not! Around me..... all aged about 4..... Amelia, Ella, Katie, Kate, Ellie, Evie, Tilly. More unusual names.... Nina, Isla (know only one), Lucy, Jessie, Ibby (I think she is Isobel), Leonora (love this name), Harmony.... that is about it.

squoosh · 22/04/2015 15:39

Yes I've noticed a few Ellas recently. Not sure who inspired it.

Only1scoop · 22/04/2015 15:41

Ballonetta

TheWildRumpyPumpus · 22/04/2015 15:42

I know loads of little Anna's following Frozen so I wouldn't say that's underused.

Evie, Amelia, Lucy, Ava, Millie, Daisy - can barely move for them around here!

SylvaniansAtEase · 22/04/2015 15:44

Evie, Isabella and variants, all the Ellie/Ella ones, Matilda, Millie millie millie millie, and Amelia (usually shortened to the ubiquitous Millie!)

If you'd rather not go for anything popular, DO NOT call her Amelia.

DurhamDurham · 22/04/2015 15:47

Amelia
Caitlin
Sophie
Jessica

I like all of the above names and being popular wouldn't have put me off using them (back in the day when I was choosing baby names)

Madbengalmum · 22/04/2015 15:52

isabelle seems to be quite common, as does ella or lily

Fattycow · 22/04/2015 16:03

Emma
Sophie
Tess

Indantherene · 22/04/2015 16:08

From that darkgreen site

Biggest absolute rises (F)
Lily
Grace
Ava
Evie
Amelia
Ellie
Isabella
Olivia
Mia
Maisie

We don't have a Maisie at school but all the others we have in handfuls.

DD is in Y3. When she started in reception there were 21 girls, and all but 6 had names ending in -a. Of those 6, 5 had names ending in -y/ie/i.

TempsPerdu · 22/04/2015 16:10

From a teacher's perspective (I teach KS1 in a London suburb):

Loads of -ie and -y names, e.g. Lily/Lilly/Lillie; Tilly/Tillie; Milly/Milly; Molly/Mollie; Lucy/Lucie; Amy/Amie/Aimee. Often these are double-barrelled - so Lily-Rose; Tilly-Mae etc.

Amelia/Emilia/Emily/Amelie

Lots of E names - Ellie/Ella/Elsie/Elise, and more recently Elsa and Eliza. Have also noticed quite a few little Elodies lately.

Ava/Eva/Evie. Edith/Edie getting popular here too.

Isla

Florence

Sophie/Sophia/Sofia

Jessica

Isabella/Isabelle/Isabel/Isobel

Mia/Mya/Maia/Maya

All of these are lovely names, but they do tend to merge together when you come across lots of them (especially all the permutations of -y and -ie names)!

TempsPerdu · 22/04/2015 16:11

Oh, and Charlotte/Lottie.

Reekypear · 22/04/2015 16:22

Ellie....have mercy.

afink · 22/04/2015 16:42

I remember someone telling me they'd called their baby Olivia in 1996. I remember thinking what an ugly name it was and wondering why anybody would choose it. Then it became so popular that it stopped sounding ugly and just sounded 'normal'. I also remember the first time I met a little girl with the name Amelia (2002ish I think). I thought it was so pretty and old fashioned and unusual. Then Amelias were everywhere and it's stopped sounding pretty yo me and now just sounds dull.

CPtart · 22/04/2015 16:45

Ellie, Millie, Tilly, Poppy, Izzy, Ella, Eva, Evie, Lily., Mia, Maya.....and Grace.

KERALA1 · 22/04/2015 16:46

Overuse eventually obliterates prettiness.

I think people about to have their first often look back to their own school days and think there were no Amelia's / Olivia's/ eves I am being quite original (know I did). Then walk into their first baby group and realise oh shit I have picked the same name as everyone else...
