Just that really. I have a shortlist but would rather not go for anything that's overly popular. So instead of me telling you the names, could you say what names you hear a lot?! Smile

Hmm. Well that pretty much covers off my shortlist! missy (or anyone else with an Amelia) - does it bother you that it's so popular? That's my number one name but it seems quite a few others like it too....

Isabelle/Izzy/Belle/bella
Ellie/Ella
Olivia
Molly
Lily
Poppy
Daisy
Grace/Gracie

And lots of names with -May and -Rose

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 21/04/2015 21:58

Variants of:

Isabel
Eva/Evie
Ellie
Poppy
Grace
Anna
Sophia

If you want to avoid popular, avoid -ie or -ia sounds at the end. They all merge to one mass. Millie, Tilly, Ellie, Evie and Sophia, Isabella, etc

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 21/04/2015 22:00

OP- do you know the ONS produce name lists each year showing popularity for England and Wales. Amelia is a top 5 name currently I think.

wizzler · 21/04/2015 22:03

Eve/Evie/Ava are the most popular names in dd's class. No Amelia's.

VirginiaTonic · 21/04/2015 22:20

Babies seem to be named Ava, Evie, Isla, Katie, and Ella.

KERALA1 · 21/04/2015 22:20

Don't do it op. These names have lost all charm through over use and I speak as someone who nearly called their first born Olivia thank god I wished up at the last minute - there were 3 I the first baby class I went to.

Lots of decent underused names

Mary
Tess
Zoe
Miranda

The world does not need any more Amelia, Sophie's or eves . She won't thank you ( have tedious common seventies name myself)

IfYouWereARiverIdLearnToFloat · 21/04/2015 22:21

Ava, Eva, Evie, Sophie, Martha & Olivia.

I find there are huge regional varations (I'm in Scotland). I have DDs in nursery and in school and have never met an Amelia.
I say if you love the name, then go for it. Popular names are popular for a reason - they're great names.

This site is really good to see name trends. I am due in May and I've been obsessed with it.

I hear flower names a lot. Good luck

Jenni2legs · 21/04/2015 22:26

I've just looked at Amelia on there ^ and it's very, very popular.

Bluestocking · 21/04/2015 22:27

Eve/Eva/Ava
Emily/Amelia/Amélie (or Ammerley which is what it always sounds like when pronounced in English)
Maya/Maia

It's really hard but I agree that Amelia is the Joanne of my generation (there were 3 in my class at school). It's a shame because it's a lovely name.

I have an Isobel and even though it's very popular, it suits her and I still like it. It depends whether you like the name enough to get past how many other Amelias there will be.

blardyfeck · 21/04/2015 22:31

Lily, Harriet, Imogen, daisy here
