Confessions - names you love but will never use

Just as title really. I have a theory that everyone has a baby name that they love but will never/ have never got to use. Mine is Silas, always adored it but DH (and almost everyone else in rl) hates it. My mum's is Toby, she's tried to get us to use it but we haven't obliged. Would anyone else care to share?

I love Matilda, Adelaide and Byron, but DP is Aussie and I think it would be overkill.

Jago and Arlo are my loves that DP just shakes his head at.

Clementine
Clara
Clover

Bartholomew (loved this before the Simpsons came along..)
Dexter

We've had 4 kids, these have been on my list every time and DH has refused to consider them. None of our DDs have ended up with a name beginning with 'C' which is surprising when you look at my loved but lost list.

GloopMonster · 20/01/2015 19:10

YY to Hermione, soundsystem. I've loved that name since I was a teenager, but can't bring myself to use a famous literary name.
I also quite like Bella, as a nn, which I also can't use for obvious reasons. Plus, all of the names that it's a nn for are either too popular or I don't like them.

I'm going to have a field day naming pets one day... Grin

I have many, I had long name lists until my kids were born and now keep them at behindthename.com for writing and video name characters (names are so my thing that my DP and some friends let me name their characters...). Top ones off the top of my head that I love but will never use: Zosime, Winifred, Adalet, Olivine and Adwin.

Thanks Hollyisalovelyname Unfortunately disability means those options are out too Sad have to wait till I get a rescue puppy, my current dogs are rescue and were older so already named

SingingSands · 21/01/2015 01:05

Boy - Sasha or Valentine
Girl - April or Zoe

No chance of any more DC for us - We have named the cats with two of the above instead!

NadiaWadia · 21/01/2015 04:03

Jezebel and Lilith. I think they're beautiful, but Lilith means a female demon, apparently, and Jezebel was a Scarlet Woman in the Bible I am told - and these are the associations most people have with these names, unfortunately.

It needs someone brave to reclaim them and then people wouldn't have those associations any more, I suppose, but I was not that person!

DarylDixonsDarlin · 21/01/2015 12:07

Gosh yes I'd forgotten Lilith, an old friend of mine had it as a middle name and I thought it was lovely until I went to check the meaning Shock struck that one off the list pretty quick lol

sianihedgehog · 22/01/2015 21:13

so many perfectly acceptable names on here!

mine are:
Siouxsie (i'm not young enough to get away with naming babies after pop stars!)
Laika (means "barker" or "howler", no matter how awesome it sounds, and how cool space dogs are, I can't do that)

I love Mungo, it's on my boys names list!

itstheyearzero · 23/01/2015 15:58

Seth for a boy and Mabel for a girl. I have one DS and won't be having any more sadly.

Littleblueowl · 24/01/2015 20:04

When I was pregnant with DS I was desperate to name him Squirrel. Thankfully DP was having none of it and I look back now and wonder what I was thinking!

Really though, Luna is a favourite, and Rupert.
