Confessions - names you love but will never use

Just as title really. I have a theory that everyone has a baby name that they love but will never/ have never got to use. Mine is Silas, always adored it but DH (and almost everyone else in rl) hates it. My mum's is Toby, she's tried to get us to use it but we haven't obliged. Would anyone else care to share?

Sylvie

squoosh the kids doing the teasing would have to be pretty well read in the classics and probably be called Adonis, Zuleika, Capability and Trev, short for Trevi of course.

crje · 16/01/2015 21:10

Toby - too posh(dh)
Madeleine - too tragic( mc cann)

Longdistancenerves · 16/01/2015 21:10

My gosh there's some brilliant inspiration on here.. I love Lysander.

Anyway, mine is Barnaby (think there was a thread about them earlier in the week) as everybody scoffed at it for DS1.

I would have said Grace, but provided I'm married if I have a DD my surname won't matter (it would be hideous) and more importantly, it was ex-DP who had a problem with it because of a girl he knew. Grin puts Grace back on the table

sleepdodger · 16/01/2015 21:11

Beatrix
Claudia
Queebie
Persephone nn perci
Penny
Pearl
Saroise

We have boys...

squoosh · 16/01/2015 21:12

Ah but it wouldn't be the kids doing the teasing. It would be Uncle Paul, or Granddad Jim.

DilysDerwent · 16/01/2015 21:13

Philippa - sounds terrible with surname

gunadeas · 16/01/2015 21:17

Ned for a boy & Honor for a girl.....

MummyBeerest · 16/01/2015 21:19

Chloe. Constantly vetoed.

River for a boy.

BathshebaDarkstone · 16/01/2015 21:20

Wulf. With DS's surname he'd have got some serious stick at school. Hmm

Notso · 16/01/2015 21:22

Leroy, I absolutely love it, but everyone I ever mentioned it to gave me a WTF face. DH just pissed himself laughing.

dementedma · 16/01/2015 21:29

Ruth. Dh hated it.
Sebastian. Simon. Guy. Likewise.

burgatroyd · 16/01/2015 21:32

sleepdodger Queebie? Hmm

burgatroyd · 16/01/2015 21:34

According to urban dictionary:
Queebie
a slut; originated from "queen bee" because queen bees fuck all the worker bees
"what a queebie, she has a different guy for every day of the week"

burgatroyd · 16/01/2015 21:34

Has a nice ring to it!

pintofmilk · 16/01/2015 21:35

I am expecting DC4 in a few weeks, haven't found out the sex.

Would love either : Heathcliff (just love Wuthering Heights) for a boy
Or
Vesper for a girl.
Sadly DP has told me NO NO NO and blames it on my hormones Sad

PavlovtheCat · 16/01/2015 21:38

Scout (DH still insists we will have another girl and call her this)
Cecily (DH won't have it, see above)

shakemysilliesout · 16/01/2015 21:39

I love Lysander!

Silas sounds like silage.

I like Laura and emerald.

GlitzAndGigglesx · 16/01/2015 21:50

Crystal (chavvy)
Roxanne (chavvy)
Electra (porn star)
Britney (tacky)
Blaise (strange)
Jordan (tacky)
Giselle (prostitute)
Jeremiah (too "black")
Kia (car connotations)
Isadora (Dora the explorer)
Tatiana (porn star)
Kasia (would forever be mispron)

These are all people's reactions when I've mentioned the names Sad

GlitzAndGigglesx · 16/01/2015 21:53

MummyBeerest I love Chloe! But was told a big fat no! :(

Memphisbelly · 16/01/2015 22:01

Zephyr
Apollo
Amos

Currently pg with ds and these have all been given a firm no from dh Sad

skylark2 · 16/01/2015 22:03

I also like Gabriel (but hate Gabe, so that was out).

I always wanted to call my DS Marcus (too much Eagle of the Ninth) but DH loathed it.

And my two favourite DD names are Lauren and Tessa, both of which would have been truly dreadful with our surname.

Egog · 16/01/2015 22:05

Desperately wanted Matilda since loving the book as a little girl. Now a relative used it for her dd (born 8 weeks before mine) and it's all a bit popular now too. ??

Notso · 16/01/2015 22:06

Also love Digby, but was vetoed as too Doggy.

MrsTawdry · 16/01/2015 22:13

By the looks of this thread, if there were no Dads, then all children would have the most AMAZING names!

Classes full of Midwinters, Scouts, Clements and Apollos!
