Confessions - names you love but will never use

Just as title really. I have a theory that everyone has a baby name that they love but will never/ have never got to use. Mine is Silas, always adored it but DH (and almost everyone else in rl) hates it. My mum's is Toby, she's tried to get us to use it but we haven't obliged. Would anyone else care to share?

Oh, and Radish, Silas is a lovely name.

hollyisalovelyname · 17/01/2015 18:50

ColdFeet every Colm I know is lovely

hollyisalovelyname · 17/01/2015 18:54

Eloise
Romy

ZebraGiraffe · 17/01/2015 19:05

Rocky for a boy Blush
Saffy for a girl
Rupert

Names like Aurelia, Aurora, Ophelia, Savannah, Emmeline, Evangeline - loe them but they don't work with the surname and DH found them too fairy-tale ish!

I love the following (more mainstream names) but will never use as DC are now in their twenties and there are certainly not going to be any more!!
Theodora, Isadora, Ottilie, Saskia, Matilda, Amelia, Amelie, India

Will have to work on DD if she eventually has babies of her own but must restrain from being that MIL/pushy grandparent type who is reliving it all through grandchildren!

Jude
Apple
Lysander

Meggymoodle · 17/01/2015 19:29

Jotham - still love this and wish we'd used it.

Philip nn pip - likewise

Tabitha - doesn't go with surname

Meggymoodle · 17/01/2015 19:31

Oh and Apple, since I was a teenager I thought this would be fab for either gender .... But really.... No

Surf25 · 17/01/2015 19:39

Jesse
Love this name for a boy
Live in Scotland so it is a complete no no. Such a shame!

Radish9 · 17/01/2015 19:52

This has been really interesting, some fabulous unused names.
Thanks Holy, that makes you, me and my mum the only people who like Silas!
And Meggy - I've only ever come across one Jotham before and I rather liked it too!

I have a silas in my family. He's 2 and lovely! Not in this country though so pronounced zeelas...

HomewardBound2014 · 17/01/2015 21:06

I like Shane for a girl but dp vetoed it. So wont get to use it as not having another child.

carabos · 17/01/2015 21:44

I love Sharon. Also love Kayleigh. Both obviously unusable and not just because a) I'm 51, b) both DC are boys Grin. DC would actually have been Olivia and Florence had they been girls.

Egog · 17/01/2015 23:39

D'you know, this thread has made me think fuck it, I'm using Matilda if I have another girl. I love it, DH loves it, who cares if there's another one in the family (that we hardly ever see anyway)!

BugBugBug · 18/01/2015 08:10

Go for it egog!

D0nnaO · 18/01/2015 09:21

Seth - DH hates it Sad

Purplehonesty · 18/01/2015 09:33

Mine is quite a simple one, it's Katy. But where we live no one pronounces their t's (apart from us obviously!) so dd would have been Kay ee for the rest of her life and it's horrible!

Roomba · 18/01/2015 09:35

I love Silas too. DS2 was almost called Silas but we got such a negative reaction from everyone that we didn't in the end.

Love Matilda but won't get to use is now as done having kids.

I like a lot of Shakespearean names like Ophelia, but I know my family would think I was being up my own arse using them (philistines).

Benedict is gorgeous, but now just reminds everyone of Mr Cumberbatch.

Loads of gorgeous Irish names that I love, but I have recently seen reactions to my friend calling her DD Caoimhe, and wouldn't want my child to be taken the piss out of as people have done with her (for no reason at all, it's none of their business what sher calls her DD FFS!).

HiawathaDidntBotherTooMuch · 18/01/2015 10:02

Peter, but I really dislike the shortened Pete, which is what everyone would use.

Emma, but I don't have girls. Love it though. Simple and pretty and nobody would misspell it.

Pippa. DH really didn't like it.

Sacha.

I wanted to call my little girl Kezia Arwen, but disability meant no kids Sad
