Confessions - names you love but will never use

Just as title really. I have a theory that everyone has a baby name that they love but will never/ have never got to use. Mine is Silas, always adored it but DH (and almost everyone else in rl) hates it. My mum's is Toby, she's tried to get us to use it but we haven't obliged. Would anyone else care to share?

Nocturne123 · 16/01/2015 22:17

Pavlov , love Scout for a girl

NormHonal · 16/01/2015 22:19

DC1 would've been Dexter if a boy. I still coo every time I meet a Dex.

DC2 would've been Florence if a girl. I know this was wildly popular a la SamCam etc but it was a family name and I really wanted to use it! To this day have never met a real-life Florence (other than my multiple late relative-namesakes).

Others that were discarded:

Jessamy
Elodie
Elise
Charlie
Edward
Flora

It would be interesting to also have a thread about the names grandparents wanted/hoped for.
My dad wanted us to use Clint for a boy, Ruth for a girl. He was very definite about these.

Helish · 16/01/2015 22:23

Another one wanting Gabriel here. Even asked DH in the delivery suite once DS was born and was still told 'no' so it's never going to happen. Heath also got vetoed

NormHonal · 16/01/2015 22:23

...and I forgot Mireille/Mirella/Mirabelle. In the running for DC1 but got nixed by DH for a random reason. Grrr.

stardusty5 · 16/01/2015 22:31

Persephone, Penelope, Felicity

GlitzAndGigglesx · 16/01/2015 22:37

Remembered a few more...

Esmerelda
Seraphina
Athena
Leonidas
Cassius
Harmony
Redd

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 16/01/2015 22:49

Aurora - I think its a very pretty name, but people would probably think I was naming her after a Disney Princess

Arianna - still love it, but if we had another girl I doubt if we'd use it as DD1's name begins with A. I have Marianna listed in my memory bank for DC2, as well as Mariella.

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 16/01/2015 22:50

Oh and Colm for a boy - very irish though, and we aren't, so I don't know if I could convince DH of that one if we had a boy....

LouiseBrooks · 16/01/2015 22:55

Gabriel
Gideon
Tangwystl

Anything ancient Greek including Parthenope which was apparently the name of Florence Nightingale's sister

Petal7 · 16/01/2015 22:57

Hugo
Ludo
Ivo

Clementine
Perdita
Theodora
Araminta
Bunty
Tiggy

Meredith (Merry), Merlin, Myfanwy, Malcom, Liberty, Aurora, Ariadne, Gabriel, Maeve, Autumn, Sennen, Zennor, Fae, Roxanne, were among some of the ones rejected by DH as being too wacky Hmm there were lots more but I can't think of them just now. Charlie (girl or boy) was too dog like, he thought.

Aelfreda (Freda) or something like that was another reject. Not sure on the spelling of that one, it was something to do with elves Confused.

I was dead set on Myfanwy though. Gave the name to the new Christmas tree fairy instead (heavily pregnant, hormonal).

DarylDixonsDarlin · 16/01/2015 23:22

And I myself narrowly escaped being called Trevelyan according to mother, thankfully I was a girl not a boy! Wished I'd never asked her what would I have been called if I was a boy! Lol.

blueshoes · 16/01/2015 23:23

Ophelia, because of the association with tragedy. Same with Tristan.

Lizaa · 16/01/2015 23:24

Roddy

tyaca · 16/01/2015 23:26

Ethel - it's just the prettiest name but no way I would get it past DH.
Patience - Beautiful name, but added to our surname make a somewhat rude statement. Also, poor girl, imagine how annoying it would be for poor girl every time she showed any signs of impatience.
Dexter - love it but too silly and would be horrific with our surname

plus, am having no more babies

JustAnotherControlFreak · 16/01/2015 23:33

Jaime, Leigh and Roberta. I'll get my coat...

lollygagger · 16/01/2015 23:42

Echo
Gwendoline

we had a ds so no chance for these.

pinkandsparklytoo · 16/01/2015 23:58

Orlando and Lysander

SnoringNorma · 17/01/2015 00:14

Danica (no Slavic ancestors)
Jerome (weird apparently)
Dyllis(dildo Hmm)
Ambrose (too girly)

BugBugBug · 17/01/2015 07:52

Oh and seren. Love that it means star. I stupidly told sister when she was pregnant and she pinched it.

GloopMonster · 17/01/2015 08:11

Remembered a couple of boys' names that were vetoed:
Hugo
Marcus
Alexander

We have our boy's name ready in case dc2 needs it at some point in the future, so no further negotiations needed anyway.

I'll still mourn those names though...

Also, I'm wondering if the person who said 'Queebie' did a typo and meant 'Queenie'?
