Confessions - names you love but will never use

Just as title really. I have a theory that everyone has a baby name that they love but will never/ have never got to use. Mine is Silas, always adored it but DH (and almost everyone else in rl) hates it. My mum's is Toby, she's tried to get us to use it but we haven't obliged. Would anyone else care to share?

Norah

I love quite hardcore biblical boys names - Isaiah, Emmanuel, Ezekiel - but we are atheists and DH thinks I am bonkers Grin.

I love Roxana (I know someone said Roxanne up thread). Everyone else hates it, though, and I got a wobble about it when pregnant with DD and didn't use it.

Also - Rudy for a girl. Again, DH gave me a withering look when I mentioned it.

I rather liked Loveness, but everyone I told said it sounded like something negative...

geeka- I like Gaius! Loved Battlestar Gallactica! Wink

hanette · 16/01/2015 20:37

Marmaduke - I didn't stand a chance!

Narrowdog · 16/01/2015 20:38

Capucine. She was an italian model/actress from the 60s and I coveted the name from an early age. I Never had a girl and it never stood a chance anyway. Sigh.

DefiniteMaybe · 16/01/2015 20:38

Silas was mine too but our surname is 5 letters long, starts and ends with an s and has a l in the middle so definitely wouldn't work.

rednsparkley · 16/01/2015 20:39

I wanted Rogan for DS1 or Fergus - both vetoed by DH Sad - mind you lovely with my accent - not so lovely with his accent and we live where he is from

pinkrocker · 16/01/2015 20:40

CoffeeBeanie you have my name!
I love Constance Clara which was my wonderful fabulous Grandma's name and I wish I'd been braver!

HolyTerror · 16/01/2015 20:41

But almost all of these are quite ordinary names - I was expecting far more of a Moon Unit vibe!

I would have loved to call DS Lir - name of an Irish sea god, also from the legend The Children of Lir - but it's now a brand of rather nasty Irish 'luxury' chocolates.

IAmAPaleontologist · 16/01/2015 20:42

Oh plenty of names, mostly with mythological roots that I would never use outside of my head.

The name I will always mourn a little though is my actual unused girl's name because I am not having any more dc and ds2 had the audacity to be a boy. Miriam Alice is my daughter who never will be. I keep offering it to people but nobody has taken me up on it yet Grin.

DancingLola · 16/01/2015 20:44

DH didn't like;

Gabriel
Nathaniel

DH struggled to spell & didn't think anyone would be able to pronounce:

Saoirse
Caoimhe

Also he vetoed Evangeline, which I really loved. Can't remember why!

CleverPlansAndSecretTricks · 16/01/2015 20:45

Clement
Erasmus
Taliesin

We're all on my shortlist for both DS

Never had a DD but I think Flora is the most wonderful perfect name ever. DH says everyone in his home country just thinks it's a vegetable oil. Sad

MehsMum · 16/01/2015 20:47

Daphne
Aurora
Miriam (IAm, I didn't read your post until I'd typed that, honest!)
And as a middle name, Lucy
All vetoed by DH

Ezra
He didn't veto that one, but the baby was a girl.

I do actually know a Gaius. He carries it off very well.

Hester and Unity and Clementine.

I got the boys name I like, but should there be another I'd love Alec.

Ain't no way any of those are gonna happen Grin

CleverPlansAndSecretTricks · 16/01/2015 20:49

Love Angus too, but feel I would have to be Scottish to use it.

Have suddenly realised I may have watched too many "The Family Ness" cartoons as a child...

Chillibox · 16/01/2015 20:52

Adelaide and Adeline.

hollyisalovelyname · 16/01/2015 20:53

Anouska
Arielle
Saskia

YoullShootYourEyeOut · 16/01/2015 20:54

Violet, my great grandmother's name. From research on genealogy sites and my Mum's memories (she died when mum was only 10 or so), she sounded amazing and I think the name is beautiful.

I'm not having any more dcs, so it will never be used sadly.

hollyisalovelyname · 16/01/2015 20:56

I forgot Aurelie.
So sweet.

eae123 · 16/01/2015 21:00

Spencer

For a girl ??

Faez · 16/01/2015 21:01

Anastasia

Bettyhen · 16/01/2015 21:01

Scout and Milo

Hushabyelullaby · 16/01/2015 21:03

DancingLola - I really wanted Caoimhe but DH refused (even though I said we could spell it phonetically).

I love Zorscha, and also quite like Jelika, but as we're only having the one DC (which we already have), they won't get a chance to be used.

Hopingforpeaceandgoodwill · 16/01/2015 21:04

Pollyanna - named my dolly as a kid but never my daughter as was my life-long plan. Dd2 did get my other name I planned way before I met her daddy though so can't complain!

monsterfaery · 16/01/2015 21:05

My fave boys name is Reuben but DH vetoed it as too posh Sad
