Which names do you IRRATIONALLY dislike?

This is not certainly not meant to be a "bitchy names thread". The emphasis is on the word IRRATIONAL. i.e. there are some names that are perfectly innocuous, lots of other people like them, I've known some lovely people with those names (so no obvious bad associations) BUT for some reason I've always disliked them. Would be interested in hearing anyone else's bugbear names!

ANNA - just too symmetrical, and (to my ears) smug and boring

LUCINDA - I like Lucy, but for some reason the "inda" really turns me off this name

Anything with "BELLE"on the end.Annabelle, Isabelle etc Pretty on paper, but I just don't like the sound for some reason

BEATRICE again irrational, but the combination of sounds just doesn't do it for me, it does the opposite of "trip off the tongue"

This is not meant to be in any way offensive. My 3 children have really "Marmite" names, and I don't mind at all that some people don't like them.
I just think everyone finds that certain sounds "jar" with them. Do others find this?

On a different note, the Baby Names topic is brilliant and I have been a long time lurker!

I pathologically hate Alice and Charlotte. No real reason, I just think they're horrid even though I know plenty of lovely Charlottes.

fairgame · 25/10/2014 19:26

Archie. I can't stand it and don't know why.

Wailywailywaaaiillly · 25/10/2014 19:27

Rowena. I don't know why as I only know a very nice Rowena I just don't like the name

Wailywailywaaaiillly · 25/10/2014 19:28

I feel dislike for the name Amelia too, for some reason

1lov3comp5 · 25/10/2014 19:29

I grew up with a girl called Dorcas, just so harsh sounding and but yet there's nothing wrong with it per se

morningsarepants · 25/10/2014 19:30

Can't stand Charlotte. No idea why!
But Anna is beautiful

NickiFury · 25/10/2014 19:30

Lee-Ann.

All the Lee Ann's I have ever known have been thoroughly mean.

Mrsgrumble · 25/10/2014 19:33

At the moment Ava . Just so many around here

No really into names that have funky spellings - trying too hard or those that are just too out there just to be cool.

Lucked · 25/10/2014 19:33

George
Phoebe
Zoe
Imogen

I know someone with a sister called Dorcas, the sister I know has a stunning name. Never met Dorcas but always felt sorry for her. I think it sounds like dork ass so IMO there is something wrong with it.

TeaAndALemonTart · 25/10/2014 19:35

Toby, I hate it. Tobias is even worse imo.

And Josh. No idea why but think it might be because of the expression 'just Joshing'

MizLizLemon · 25/10/2014 19:35

Wendy, sounds too much like windy and makes me think of farting.

Greta/Gretel, too harsh sounding and kind of lumpy.

Jeremy, smug.

NickiFury · 25/10/2014 19:35

Caleb or Seth. Both sound like the names of ranting, evangelical, fire and brimstone, preaching ministers from The Deep South.

1lov3comp5 · 25/10/2014 19:36

Lucked did the sister's name begin with E?

scarletforya · 25/10/2014 19:36

Casper, Jasper, Hugo, Alex, Rupert, Archie, Alfie, Max, etc

Wailywailywaaaiillly · 25/10/2014 19:36

There was a girl called Nory in my class I always thought it was a horrid name. I quite like it now. Not feeling love for the name Dorcas now but I have never met any.

number2093847 · 25/10/2014 19:36

I like Elle but Elliot and Ella I dislike for no reason at all.

David, no idea why, just hate it

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 25/10/2014 19:39

Chloe

It feels odd in my throat when I say it. I think maybe the sound is too close to 'cloying'. Awkward, as it's the name of a daughter of a dear friend.

Angela.

Perfectly nice name theoretically but I've met a couple I really disliked and it's tainted now.

PinkSquash · 25/10/2014 19:39

Finlay/Findley. Just sounds awful to me.

lisej · 25/10/2014 19:41

I loathe Alice. To me, it sounds smug and 'nothingy'. I have never known an Alice so I have nobody to base this feeling on.

I also really really dislike Hannah. I have known many, both lovely and horrible, but the name only ever conjures up images of irritatingly precocious and keen little girls to me.

Top of my irrational dislikes, though, are nearly all old names that begin with M. I think I hate them all, with the exception of Margaret and Mary. So, Molly, Millie, Martha, Mabel and Maisie all really really bother me. I have no idea why I dislike them so much, but they set my teeth on edge. they're really popular too, so lots of my friends have girls with those names.

NickiFury · 25/10/2014 19:43

Leon. It's a rappers name.

Wildpoppies · 25/10/2014 19:45

Angela

Wildpoppies · 25/10/2014 19:45

Charlotte

monostar · 25/10/2014 19:47

Chardonnay, Chantelle, Jordan, Jayden, Chelsea, Mackenzie, Reagan, Joshua,

Courtney, Kayla, Shanice...sorry but I really dislike these names Blush
