I do hope you're joking, but just in case you aren't, then no, Jezebel is an absolutely terrible name.

How about Annabel, Isabel, Arabella, Christabel...?

almapudden · 23/10/2014 18:54

too far. It might sound pretty, but it screams 'prostitute'. If you like biblical names, what about Hepzibah or Zilpah?

JassyRadlett · 23/10/2014 18:54

I tend to feel that any name you can put 'a' in front of (ie 'a jezebel') is iffy, and if it's negative as a common noun then you shouldn't use it.

It's a definite no from me. You can't do that to a kid.

JemimaButtons · 23/10/2014 18:56

This is a joke, right?!

minipie · 23/10/2014 18:57

You must be joking surely?

What about Jessica, Jessamyn, Jocelyn?

micah · 23/10/2014 18:59

Actually I love it too, but wouldn't use it because of its connotations.

No- even ignoring the awful connotations- what girl or woman wants her name to be shortened to jezza?!

CrumpleHornedSnorkack · 23/10/2014 19:03

No.

Woozlebear · 23/10/2014 19:19

No, please no, just don't. Why???

InfinitySeven · 23/10/2014 19:20

Gossip site, or prostitute.

Not really usable.

scarletforya · 23/10/2014 19:20

I wouldn't.

Jolene?

Despite the Dolly parton Song I love it but...

KlokkenVin · 23/10/2014 19:23

No. Flipping heck no !

Jessamy or mirabel might be to your taste without being so loaded with association.

WerewolfBarMitzvah · 23/10/2014 19:25

Was thinking the Jezza thing too pregnant
I know when I look into my daughter's beautiful face, I want to have the ruddy, sexist visage of Jeremy Clarkson in my mind!

MiddletonPink · 23/10/2014 19:26

Jezza Kyle.

fairyteepee · 23/10/2014 19:26

Definitely not a joke! Its a lovely name and were not religious so the bible associations don't phase me.
Are people saying no because of not liking the name or for not liking its association? Ta!

fairyteepee · 23/10/2014 19:28

Would be shortened by us to Jezzie or Bell

Some names have associations that aren't necessarily obvious to everyone (eg Casper was mentioned on another thread - I don't think younger generations will automatically thing "GHOST!").

Jezebel is NOT one of those names. It is more an insult than a name.

How about Jocasta?

CrumpleHornedSnorkack · 23/10/2014 19:32

It's the female equivalent of Judas. You just wouldn't.

EElisavetaofBelsornia · 23/10/2014 19:33

Jocasta was Oedipus's mother, and he accidentally had sex with her. So, no.

TriciaMcM · 23/10/2014 19:33

"Are people saying no because of not liking the name or for not liking its association?"

Not religious either but it's a noun as well as name now really. Like calling a child Harlot

AndHarry · 23/10/2014 19:37

I would definitely not use it. You don't have to be religious to know that it's not a kind or nice name to give a baby.

GingerCuddleMonster · 23/10/2014 19:40

I just can't imagine Jezebel on the top of a cv without the entire office laughing or giving "the look"

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 23/10/2014 19:43

can you imagine calling it out across a crowded playground Shock

OttiliaVonBCup · 23/10/2014 19:44

Look, life's hard enough as it is.
Don't do it to your baby.
