Sorry, I though you were asking for a link. If you mean 'Link' as a name, then I think that could actually be the problem. Also, teasing 'are you the missing link' etc.

I don't like it personally and wasn't even aware of the Nintendo association.

HingleMcCringleberry · 01/09/2014 16:49

Christen him Lincoln, call him Link.

MrsHathaway · 01/09/2014 16:50

Link on its own is a bit Mills & Boon.

Lincoln nn Linc is a bit cool.

Showy · 01/09/2014 16:53

Possibly better as a middle name, assuming The Missing isn't his first name. It's just, well, implausible as a name. Like you picked your favourite noun and went with it. I'd be waiting for you to introduce his brothers Shelf and Fork.

OwlCapone · 01/09/2014 16:53

no. It's awful.

fairyteepee · 01/09/2014 16:54

Don't like Lincoln I'm afraid. He wont be christened either! Smile

fairyteepee · 01/09/2014 16:55

susiedaisy · 01/09/2014 17:00

Mintyy · 01/09/2014 17:03

fairyteepee · 01/09/2014 17:06

polkadotdelight · 01/09/2014 17:07

It makes me think of California Man!

RiverTam · 01/09/2014 17:12

it's not a name, it's a word.

Alisvolatpropiis · 01/09/2014 17:14

It isn't a word I see as being a name.

Bowlersarm · 01/09/2014 17:16

Don't like just Link.

Think it's only acceptable as short for Lincoln.

BaronessBomburst · 01/09/2014 17:18

Sounds a bit Goth.

Bakeoffcakes · 01/09/2014 17:23

Is it an actual nameConfused

Boysandme · 01/09/2014 17:25

Sorry, I think it's awful.

BackforGood · 01/09/2014 17:28

Awful.
I don't like names that are 'things'..... can just get away with so0me flower names, but Link? - No.

13Stitches · 01/09/2014 17:31

I like it! I've seen quite a few unusual names come through school and Link is one of the least presumptuous ones. It doesn't indicate a personality Type to me.

If you like it, use it. It'll only have that raised eyebrows effect on the first mention, then it'll just be Link's name.

13Stitches · 01/09/2014 17:33

Oh, and regarding "missing link" jokes, I always think people pick on others for any reason at all. If it's not a name, it'll be something else. At least a name can be either blamed on parents or changed.

Nessalina · 01/09/2014 17:43

I think it's cool! But then I Envy Legend of Zelda.
DH says it's weird.

AberdeenAngusina · 01/09/2014 17:47

Link? As in sausages?

It sounds more like a nick name than an actual name.

fairyteepee · 01/09/2014 17:50

yes! 2 likes!! Good taste ladies Grin

I think it's just too much used in the computing context- "could you send me the link?"

And I think that nobody would be able to resist the "missing" or "chain" or "of London" comments and it would be very, very tedious for him having to hear them all the time for the rest of his life.
