In a park in leeds today:

Hudson (girl)
Dylan, Bertie, Noel, Mattie (boys)

Report
florascotia · 24/08/2014 20:35

But Hudson contains the element 'son'. It means 'son of a man named Hudde'. Hudde was a short form of (usually) Hugh or (sometimes) Richard.

Why would anyone give it to a daughter?

Count unity is great but slightly tarnished by Unity Mitford Nazi sympathiser.

Nice to see the number of Summers mentioned - when we named our daughter that 3 years ago we were regarded as quite 'out there' by our social circle (although we've never had any negative comments about it). In fact we've since been credited as the inspiration for some friends choosing more unusual names for their kids. We're in NI though, where it wasn't in top 100 names the year she was born. I knew it was around 25/30 for England and Wales though so good to see its' popularity coming through on this thread!
Names I've come across in park recently are:
Phoebe (2)
Suzi (3)
Joni (4)
Shiloh(5), Ezra (4), and baby Asher - all siblings
Lots of Lukes, Noahs, Archies, and Olivers too!

I am the one who can offer a Ptolemy, known as Tolly. He will be in year 2 next year. Interestingly no one bats an eyelid at the name unless it is on mn. He was in a group with a Declan, an Archie, a Freddie an Edward and a Ralph. Its just an ordinary group of school friends meeting up with mums and grans for a play. One of them is my dgs (not Tolly).

In the park a few days ago

Patricia
Eva
Jacky (boy)
Emmett
Annie
Selina

I've also met a few Nathans, which I am really surprised at. None older than about 2, so it seems to be getting popular in the last few years. I was surprised, as I thought it was a real 90s throwback
