We are struggling to think of even one name we both like. Both fairly fussy.

Criteria:

2 syllables ideally, but no more than 3.
Can't end with an M or an S
Preferably doesn't start with B, R, L
No nature names

To fit with our separate preferences, it can't be too unusual but neither can it be too strongly traditional.

Definitely not:
Henry, Arlo, Frederick, John, Ian, William, Neo, Scott, Leo

Names that one of us quite likes and the other is a bit 'meh, maybe' about:
Kester
Owen
Zeno
Ruan/Rewan
Elwyn
Quinlan
Jared
Cooper
Eisley
Gibson
Cameron
Ivan
Lennox/Lenox
Ned
Sydney/Sidney
Kitto
Lowen

If you have any suggestions please help! At the moment neither of us has anything we LOVE.

Start with letters you'd rather not use

Brody
Landon

Workinglate · 01/07/2014 16:24

Thanks everyone and sorry to be awkward but none of these is possible. There are a few that one of us would go for but not the other, e.g. Carlo, Isaac, Cameron. Some are also just too common around here, e.g. Noah, Phoenix, anything starting with 'Fin'.

Brody and Landon sound very American to me.

I know these start with the wrong letter but:
Rafe
Rory

I took all the names off a US list. Cooper and Gibson sound very American to me so I thought you might like some of them.

Xavier (although how you pronounce it might put it over 2 syllables)
Christoph
Joseph
Jonah

Aldous

Some less traditional biblical names;

Ezekiel
Abel
Abner
Asher
Boaz

I love Ezra too.

Daniel

Workinglate · 01/07/2014 16:56

Still no, I'm afraid. :-(

I like Aldous but we can't have anything that ends with an 'uss' sound, we'd end up sounding like snakes with our surname.

Can't be anything overtly Biblical - i.e. it's OK if they are names that have passed into common English usage and don't bring the Bible to mind, but something like Ezekiel/Jonah would be out.

Love Tristan but it's a close family name.

I'd love Tudor but it's too unusual for DH.

From your list I love Sidney and quinlan, Quinn is a great nn.

Workinglate · 01/07/2014 16:58

Things like Robert and Daniel sound too common to me - I know they aren't these days, but I went to school with tons of Roberts, Daniels, Simons, Pauls, etc. I don't want a name that so many of my contemporaries have.
