We are struggling to think of even one name we both like. Both fairly fussy.

Criteria:

2 syllables ideally, but no more than 3.
Can't end with an M or an S
Preferably doesn't start with B, R, L
No nature names

To fit with our separate preferences, it can't be too unusual but neither can it be too strongly traditional.

Definitely not:
Henry, Arlo, Frederick, John, Ian, William, Neo, Scott, Leo

Names that one of us quite likes and the other is a bit 'meh, maybe' about:
Kester
Owen
Zeno
Ruan/Rewan
Elwyn
Quinlan
Jared
Cooper
Eisley
Gibson
Cameron
Ivan
Lennox/Lenox
Ned
Sydney/Sidney
Kitto
Lowen

If you have any suggestions please help! At the moment neither of us has anything we LOVE.

Cosmo. I have one and he is fab!

Workinglate · 01/07/2014 21:03

scottishmummy, I didn't know that! I quite like Ned.

almapudden those are all a bit too fussy - needs to be something quite plain to appeal to DH I think.

Thinking about it more, I would say he is drawn to names that are simple, easy to spell and have absolutely no try-hard or posh connotations. And he has to have heard of it before.

Based upon your recent post about your husband wanton something not try hard or posh but a recognisable name then I feel like you are looking for a name like 'Leo' but not starting with an 'L'

Only thinks I can think of that feels similar is Max, but suspect that's too mainstream.

Kantha · 01/07/2014 22:18

Haha - just reread your OP and see that Leo is a definite no Grin

BomberManIsAGirl · 01/07/2014 22:20

I'm sorry to be the barer of bad news but I had a similar desire to call my DC something uncommon but not weird, try-to-hard or pretentious and eventually realised it's just not possible. Confused

You will just have to call him Oliver, Harry or Jack. Grin

In the end we just chose the names we liked the most even if they were more popular than we would have liked.

almapudden · 01/07/2014 22:21

Taryn
Tate
Wilder
Claus
Skander
Struan

Workinglate · 01/07/2014 22:23

Yes, Kantha, you're right - something short and straightforward but not Max or Leo. Or anything else I can think of! Smile

I know, Bomber, I think I have reached that conclusion as well. DH hasn't though - and I just want to be able to have a bit of a shortlist, even if it's just a couple of options, before I am actually pushing the baby out.

Matthew

CalpolOnToast · 01/07/2014 22:34

We had similar criteria (although we wanted Irish lite) and our list was pretty much:
Cian
Finn
Cade
Emerson
Ciaran

We decided on Cian on the way to hospital!

OldCatLady · 01/07/2014 22:34

How about Florian? shortened to Flo.

Unusual, but easily spelt and pronounced.

BomberManIsAGirl · 01/07/2014 22:35

I'm pretty sure some posters are throwing in the occasional 'joke' suggestion. Confused Grin some of these suggestions are quite out-there

Lightheartedindeed · 01/07/2014 22:35

Arie

looki · 01/07/2014 22:37

Leon or Tate?

Workinglate · 01/07/2014 22:42

Florian too feminine-sounding for me.

Joke suggestions are fine too - anything that might spark an idea!

How do you pronounce Cian, Calpol?

OP posts:
TheRedQueen · 01/07/2014 22:47

Aneurin
Espen
Leander (if you can accept the "L")

Artandco · 01/07/2014 22:48

How about:

Saxon
Maxian/ Maxim
Lionel
Sacha
Otto
Niall
Otis
Aris
Erik
Darin
