came across this today, Charles Darwin's grandfather. Just thought, you aren't likely to see that one on a baby names thread.

reminds me of a Lord Peter Whimsy novel where the characters in the village are called Obediah, Jeremiah, Hepzibah and so on.

I don't know I never expected Archie or Arthur to come back.

Oh that is interesting, I know little Isaiah and others but haven't come across Obediah, Erasmus etc.

I don't dislike them, they are very much names of their time, they sound odd only because it is out of fashion to use them. Maud, Esme etc all sounded very Victorian, but not any longer.

this list is interesting because when I was a kid most of these names had not even arrived yet (no Kellies or Laurens in those days) but they are all out of fashion now.

I love Isambard. It's funny how you hear this (as in Isambard Kingdom Brunel) and I don't think of Isambard as being a first name that someone gave to a baby!
