Going on from the boy thread. I'm 14 weeks so don't know what I'm having yet but I have the feeling its a girl. Only problem is we have a boys list a mile long but only some ok girls names.

I love Teddy, Tyger, Wolf, Fox, Dexter etc for boys but can't seem to find any names like this for girls. Any ideas?

Wow, I don't know, there are so many girl's names I love. I don't think all the ones I love could be termed 'cool' though. Hmmm, 'cool' names:

'modern, American style cool':
Avery, Addison, Aubrey, Amberley, Brynn, Briley, Casey, Cassidy, Camryn, Dakota, Emery, Eden, Fallon, Genesis, Harper, Hadley, Kennedy, Madison, Mackenzie, McKinley, Piper, Sutton, Tarryn, Zillah

'alternative cool':
Cherry, Enya, Elfie, Gypsy, Jupiter, Kiki, Keltie, Misty, Mika, Ocean, Phoenix, Raine, Romy, Storm, Star, Zia

Ooh nice to see some names we are considering for dd2 on here. Olive / Liv being top of the list!

Will keep an eye on thos thread for more inspiration.

Strokethefurrywall · 26/02/2014 15:50

Darcy
Dylan (yes for a girl)
Sloane
Harper

I loved Dylan for a girl.

NinjaCow · 26/02/2014 16:29

I know an Azalea, a Tiger, an Ocean and an Autumn, all of which I think ar pretty cool. I knew a few girls with names usually used for boys or gender neutral names (a Ryan, a Kynnedy and a Quinn) but don't think they're cool and don't like them. I also know a Sapphire, which I think is cool.

Mireio · 26/02/2014 16:38

Lark
Alix
Romy
Xenia
Bryher
Aviva
Oona
Fleur
Xara
Steren
Nola
Gia
Hera
Io
Mattea
Opal
Sunny
Vivia
Xanthe
Zoia

trufflehunterthebadger · 26/02/2014 16:56

Ooh, my DD is Kitty. Well made up that it's cool :)

flowerygirl · 26/02/2014 17:02

I knew a girl called Flo and one called Reggie (short for Regina). They were pretty cool.

Please no one call their kid Viper. Doesn't that mean snake??

I love the name Harper, shame now it just makes everyone think of the Beckhams

smother · 26/02/2014 17:22

manicinsomniac - I love your list, esp the 'classy faux original middle class cool' (not that i'd categorise myself or my family as being anywhere remotely like this description!)

one of the coolest little girls I've come across with a name to match was called Roxanne.

smother · 26/02/2014 17:24

I also think Maud or Connie could be pretty cool (in a
'classy faux original middle class cool' kind of way)

PuppyMonkey · 26/02/2014 17:33

Pixie
Scout
Lottie
Sherbet
Daphne
Cleo
Clemmie
Buttercup

Not saying I'd use all of these of course, just suggesting Grin

DitsyDonkey · 26/02/2014 17:34

DitsyDonkey · 26/02/2014 17:34

Teddy could be short for Theodora.

it's good to see that Alix is cool - my dd (13) has just decided that she wants to be called this - her first name is Alexandra, but she's been known by her middle name so far.

I really like Polly, Nancy, Iris, Hebe and Hero. But actually what we think is cool, the children themselves don't - my dds all think that Izzy is a really cool name.

AprilS · 26/02/2014 18:36

Thats the thing its what we're used to isn't it. I want to make sure its a name we love not just something because we're trying to be cool or different. Its just those are the names we prefer if it was a boy so it makes sense we'd like those types of names with a girl.

So many good ones. Thanks folks. Will have to see what the OH thinks when he gets home. I love the name Hero too. I met a surfer from Korea when I lived in Newquay and always thought it was a fascinating name.

Apparently my name is 'classy faux original middle class cool' Hmm

Felix90 · 26/02/2014 18:40

I wanted to call dd Birdie but DP was having none of it. He wanted to call her Hunter.

I also like Cherry, Astride and Luna.

Felix90 · 26/02/2014 18:40

Astrid not astride!!

BitOutOfPractice · 26/02/2014 18:41

I used to know an Ophelia. We used to call her Ophelia Bott Blush

ThatBloodyWoman · 26/02/2014 18:42

Ember.

But I love Wren and Starling too.

MyNameIsKenAdams · 26/02/2014 18:43

Ooh I know an Ember. Its a very cool name

susiedaisy · 26/02/2014 18:45

Darla

littlebluedog12 · 26/02/2014 18:45

I love the name Noa for a girl- just so pretty. Wasn't allowed to use it though.

I met a little girl called Judith recently, shortened to Jude. She was very cool.

But glad to see my actual DD's name is thought of as cool, ha!

HandragsNGladbags · 26/02/2014 18:46

I know a very elderly lady called Diamond which I think is a fab name if you have the balls to pull it off. She does Smile
