The worst baby names you have ever heard?

Just starting a list of what not to call my baby. I don't usually make a habit of judging babies by their names but some I've heard recently have been frigging awful! The most recent one being Katara Confused it just reminds me of that phlegm when you've got a cold.

So what would you not name your baby?

I don't hate any names if you know someone with a name then the name becomes the person so I wouldn't like Myra because of the single notorious one. However the little Ptolemy [Tolly] I know is delightful and his name is just his name.

JimmyCorkhill · 09/01/2014 19:34

recently I had to settle on a "Special Sister" trolley token and was gutted that my sister could get one with her name on it.

This made me cry.

domoarigato · 09/01/2014 19:38

What's the big deal about saying what names you don't like. No one's saying they don't like the kids. Sheleigh is one I heard the other day, pronounced 'shu-lay' and I don't like Kyle, Kieran, Kailum --- any k names for some reason.

SeraphinaSparklePants · 09/01/2014 19:48

Moomins, I love the name Kara.

In fact, I like quite a few K names.

So there.

NigellasDealer · 09/01/2014 19:52

names that really put my teeth on edge....hmm
ok
"Oli" invariably a spiteful little bully with a blow dried sideways fringe
"Toby" just yuk, wet wet wet
brb when i have thought of some more Wink

Junebugjr · 09/01/2014 19:56

Dusty-ray

NigellasDealer · 09/01/2014 20:16

oh yes "Ben" so wet it is dripping

MoominsYonisAreScary · 09/01/2014 20:22

Thanks Sera, I like it too Grin although growing up I preferred dsis name

Alisvolatpropiis · 09/01/2014 20:42

Hebe. I know it's popular on here, but for me personally, it's a big no.

I thought that Kara and Cara were actually different names that just happen to sound the same when said in English?
Cara having an Italian/Gaelic root, meaning friend (mia cara - my friend) and Kara having a Greek root, meaning pure?

Mintyy · 09/01/2014 20:43

My ds has the middle name Frank. It is a fantabulous name.

5OBalesofHay · 09/01/2014 20:55

Problem is, if you ask for commentd then people either have to be honest and risk offending someone, otherwisr you just have to say 'oh Faulua-Fanjo'. Sounds lovely.

Theonlyoneiknow · 09/01/2014 21:51

KNew it was just à matter of time till my DS's name appeared

JumpingJackSprat · 09/01/2014 23:09

Can everyone who posted here slating names, post their kids names for opinion? Just interested to see what track record you have to judge names.

MoominsYonisAreScary · 09/01/2014 23:52

Devon I wasnt actually saying poo was a name (or an awful name)

I was replying to another poster who said she'd heard the name melena, and that all medical people know what that means.

Poo

MoominsYonisAreScary · 09/01/2014 23:56

The only other karas ive known have been caras, pronounced the same. People do think the real spelling is with a c.

There was a thread on here once about it, of course Kara was deemed a chavvy spelling Grin

Alisvolatpropiis · 10/01/2014 00:11

Shows how much those people know, doesn't it Moomins. So smug judging whilst actually being a bit thick Grin

MoominsYonisAreScary · 10/01/2014 00:20

Grin noone would bat an eye at a kayden, kallum connor, jaden etc where I live and im sure plenty of them have managed to find employment regardless of what mn thinks

NigellasDealer · 10/01/2014 00:33

i bet people are just getting annoyed now cos i threw in some middle class favourites that were not spelt with a K.
honestly i do not care what anyone calls their child.
