The worst baby names you have ever heard?

Just starting a list of what not to call my baby. I don't usually make a habit of judging babies by their names but some I've heard recently have been frigging awful! The most recent one being Katara Confused it just reminds me of that phlegm when you've got a cold.

So what would you not name your baby?

I always think of Kyle as a nature name like River and Brook etc but Scottish as Kyle of Lochalsh and Kyles of Bute.

AryaofhouseSnark · 12/01/2014 19:27

Yes, you're right thegreylady, Smile nothing offensive at all about it.

livingzuid · 12/01/2014 19:28

finab I was referring to Apple. Presume that's not your son's name?

OpalQuartz · 12/01/2014 19:31

I think Kyle is fine. I can't imagine any boy or man being embarrassed by it, which is the most important thing.

thegreylady · 12/01/2014 19:48

My dad wanted to call me Gloria Jean...

Finabhear · 13/01/2014 08:16

Haha! No not Apple

granny24 · 13/01/2014 10:04

Anus. Mum swore it was an old Welsh name!

Stellaface · 13/01/2014 10:22

Although there's a lot of names I don't like for whatever reason, the ones I absolutely hate are to do with people I know/have known who have been utterly horrible in one way or another. E.g. nothing wrong with Alan and I do know a few nice ones, but I loathe this name due to one chap at work who made everyone's life hell. Likewise Andy (no problem with Andrew/Drew though), Craig, Sandra, Anne-Marie, Margaret, Natalie... all perfectly nice, normal names, but the people I knew with these names were awful, so I would avoid like the plague. Would also avoid naming after any celebrity/celeb baby unless I had mine first and/or really liked the name...

Also, I rather like Ruth (after my favourite aunt) but DH hates it as had a bad breakup years ago with a Ruth. So one of my favourite names is off our list and I can't argue with that!

Dijon mustard is from Dijon in France Smile

I don't think there's anything wrong with the name Kyle. Standalone it's a good name. I would never use it because I knew an absolutely appalling young man called Kyle. Ruined the name for me. But it doesn't make me think OMG why?! When other people use it.

FixItUpChappie · 13/01/2014 17:38

Aw I like Roman....considered it for DS2 actually.

I met a Cinderella once and my judgy pants could have gone well over my head if I'm honest.

FurryDogMother · 13/01/2014 18:03

Attracta - not a baby name as such, and not that uncommon in Ireland, but the look of confusion on my (English) DH's face when he was told that a friend of ours was going out with 'a tractor' was funny :)

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 13/01/2014 18:04

Yes but the Dijon I know of was named after the mustard because he was jaundiced.

Yes really! I work with children! I can't say any more, obviously!

florascotia · 13/01/2014 18:32

Amazingly, Attracta may have been a 6th cent Irish saint. Quite possibly, her name meant 'someone who has changed her life'.

Cinnamon and Vanilla (twin girls)

Fox, Hero and Snake (all boys)
