The worst baby names you have ever heard?

IAmTheOneWhoKnocks · 07/01/2014 13:16

Just starting a list of what not to call my baby. I don't usually make a habit of judging babies by their names but some I've heard recently have been frigging awful! The most recent one being Katara Confused it just reminds me of that phlegm when you've got a cold.

So what would you not name your baby?

Couldn't possibly list them all. I find the obsession with of some with the 'unusual' or middle class 'cool' names trying, particularly as the mummies of little Pomegranates would have no problem judging Katie Price's choice of Princess Tiami (sp?). If I had to pick a particularly noxious example it would be Zephyr.

If a good point is worth making, it's worth making twice, obvs.

Blipbip · 09/01/2014 11:16

I know a little boy called Beau
In my head its Bow and doesn't quite work IMO

GalaxyDefender · 09/01/2014 14:19

Katara probably came from the TV programme Avatar, I always thought it was pretty.
I read a news story this morning where a couple named their baby girl Tali'Zorah after the character from Mass Effect - most people would think that was a terrible name, but I love it! I'm putting Tali on my girls list Grin

completely misses the point of the thread

Charotte31 · 09/01/2014 17:35

Beau is brilliant name for a boy! My best friends boy is beau, I think it's very cool!

PipkinsPal · 09/01/2014 17:47

Parents should think twice about naming their children something unusual or giving their name an unusual spelling. There is nothing more disappointing than being unable to find anything ie, pencil cases, pens, mugs etc with your name on. I have a name which is neither unusual or spelt differently (Gaynor) and I never had anything with my name on as a child. In fact, recently I had to settle on a "Special Sister" trolley token and was gutted that my sister could get one with her name on it.

LittleThorinOakenshield · 09/01/2014 17:48

Erm, really? Grin

shelbytortoise · 09/01/2014 17:54

Horrible thread OP.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 09/01/2014 17:54

Pipkins. I feel your pain. I don't have an especially unusual name but when I was growing up it was rather 'out of date' so no pencil cases/badges/pens with my name on.

Not so bad now though, I often see patterned reusable bags, trolley tokens or coasters with my name on but the appeal is just not the same. Sad

Poo

foldorscrunch.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/cooking-with-poo.jpg

It's a name, and just as lovely to the person with it, as anyone else's is to them.

when my eldest son was in primary school, Joshua was the most poplar name, nearly every second boy was a joshie, unfortunately there were six Joshua Walkers in the school four of which were in the same year two in each class, not very nice for them, all of which ended up been called something else.

All of my family have unusual names, I have found it a real advantage in life, as no one ever forgets it, and I never have to introduce myself more than once.

picnicbasketcase · 09/01/2014 18:07

Freakadelika
Shiraz-Burgundy
Squirt
Gerund
Beanz-Meanz-Heinz

But luckily they've all just come out of my head so I'm not insulting any actual babies (hopefully)

flowerygirl · 09/01/2014 18:17

I knew a Katie actually spelt K-T. Is that even allowed?

Blipbip · 09/01/2014 18:22

I have an unusual spelling of an unusual name - never met another one - I love my name and would never consider that it has disadvantaged me in any way.

RalphRecklessCardew · 09/01/2014 18:25

Frank is a very cool name. Almost too cool - can see it becoming very popular.

normaleggy · 09/01/2014 18:29

Saw the names Diesel and Ridge in a crappy local papers Bonnie baby competition

Ow I'm disapointed! I only clicked on the thread cos I hoped ds's name would be on here, ita not but I can assure you it would totally make the mumsnet grade
How about
Frigg (strangely neglected norse goddess)
Ebay (keep it topical)
Mirkin (for a boy or a girl)
Whitby and filey ( for twins obviously)
Boden (surely no one on mn can disapprove)

NigellasDealer · 09/01/2014 18:45

umm i can think of quite a few more disappointing things that that for a child tbh

Rollermum · 09/01/2014 18:57

I agree! I have an unusual (though not weird and getting more common) name and I love being generally the only one. If I saw a souvenir with my name on I'd be annoyed!

MadIsTheNewNormal · 09/01/2014 18:59

Not going to contribute to the OP but just pointing out that Frank is a completely badass and fabulous name.

I agree.

My pet hate boy's name is Mungo. It's vile.

Geckos48 · 09/01/2014 19:02

Names that are deliberately spelled wrong

Like Jazmin, Tayla

Names that should be abbreviations like Jase

Also names that sound made up

Like Trixie
Or Peaches

thegreylady · 09/01/2014 19:25

My wonderful dgs aged 10 is Frank, it is a great name.
