Not Jean Grin

I'm 6 weeks pregnant with DC2. Just playing around with names Smile

If baby is a boy he will most likely be Frank after my granda.

A girl is more difficult! DD is Cassie and we love her name. Not on the dreaded top 40 list but wacky not wacky either.

I like straightforward, pretty but non-flowery names with a retro feel.

I love Betty (and Betsy) but stupidly named the dog that not anticipating any more babies!

What do we think of my current favourite, Cherry? Not to everyone's taste I know but I'm in love with it right now Grin.

I also like Dulcie, Violet, Maggie (my father would disown me for Thatcher) and Ivy and I like Dahlia but DP doesn't.

Any ideas?

Honestly if you rename the dog now by the time the baby's born everyone will have forgotten it was ever the dogs name. Inc the dog! If you love it you should call your baby that name otherwise you'll always regret it.

VivaLeBeaver · 29/11/2013 12:22

Millie?
Meredith?

ivykaty44 · 29/11/2013 12:22

BoreOfWhabylon · 29/11/2013 12:24

Undaunted, I offer a further random list:
Bibi
Gloria
Shelley

FastWindow · 29/11/2013 12:27

I love Dulcie and Cherry!

How about Darcy?

You like B so..
Belinda
Bryony
Buffy (Elizabeth)

Penelope already mentioned. Pretty. Oh but Penny was out wasn't it?

Felyne · 29/11/2013 12:27

Ethel?

quirrelquarrel · 29/11/2013 12:29

Moira, Maeve, Hilda, Hedda, Avery

TalkativeJim · 29/11/2013 12:30

Annie!

Cassie and Annie - perfect.

And of course could be short for Anna, Annamaria, Annabel etc. (Anna!)

But I think Annie on its own is just amazing.

RobinSparkles · 29/11/2013 12:31

Susan (Suzy)
Jane.

I think my favourites that have already been mentioned are
Betsy, Annie and Marnie.

BunnyLebowski · 29/11/2013 12:31

Millie?
Meredith? No - both too frilly.

Jane
Melanie - too 70's.

Nell - not keen.
Clara - too popular.
Lydia - too posh.

Bibi
Gloria
Shelley
Betsy - On my list!
Jeanne
Alma/Dulcie/Jessie (great aunts of mine!) - as is Dulcie!
Suzanne
Loveday
Ankaret
Jana
Mary
Marisa
Yvonne
Gigi
Zizi
Zoe - don't like any of the others.

Belinda
Bryony
Buffy (Elizabeth) - not keen on any of these.

Ethel - definitely not.

Thank you all - this is really really helpful! And hurrah at another vote for Cherry Grin.

Margot

Penelope (nickname Penny).

Sally

BunnyLebowski · 29/11/2013 12:33

It would just be Annie Talkative.

I'm not one for having a 'proper' name and then shortening it. The idea of Cassie as a Cassandra or Cassiopaea makes me laugh. Far too posh!

GideonKipper · 29/11/2013 12:34

Jeannie? Wink as in 'I Dream of...'

Daphne?
Sadie?
Sylvie?
Verity?

TheLostPelvicFloorOfPoosh · 29/11/2013 12:35

I absolutely love Dulcie!

How about Mamie or Bertha (Bertie)?

Mckayz · 29/11/2013 12:36

I begged DH for Betsy for DD. But his brother and SIL had just named their dd Maggie after DH's gran. So he thought Betsy would be copying them as DH's Nan is Elizabeth.

BoreOfWhabylon · 29/11/2013 12:36

Judy
Rita
Gaynor
Belinda

Personally, would go with Dulcie or Dolly (had a great-great Auntie Dolly - she was a dancer in her heyday!)

BunnyLebowski · 29/11/2013 12:36

Yeah Dulcie is high up on my list Pelvic (loving your name btw!).

Mamie and Bertha both make me think of large elderly ladies. How do we do this with names?? Confused

OP posts:
Mckayz · 29/11/2013 12:38

Bertha makes me think of large old ladies too. Probably because I know one.

BunnyLebowski · 29/11/2013 12:39

I like Jeannie Smile

Loving the sound of your Aunt Dolly Bore!

DP has taken Mabel off the list.

He says Dolly might grow on him Grin.

Misfitless · 29/11/2013 12:40

Haven't read all 60-odd posts, OP, but just thought I'd point out that to some people, the word 'cherry' has implications of virginity/losing virginity/female anatomy.

This is quite old fashioned, and i doubt many people use it to mean this now, to be honest but it's worth taking this into account as obviously nobody wants their daughter to have a name with that sort of association.

Maybe this has already been mentioned. It's a cultural thing, it might not mean that if you are not in UK.

BunnyLebowski · 29/11/2013 12:42

I'm not bothered about that Misfit.

People will find negative associations for most names. I wouldn't let it affect my decisions.

Within reason. Obviously I wouldn't call my son Dick if our surname were Head or anything. That would be silly Grin.

Rhonda?

cantthinkofagoodone · 29/11/2013 12:43

My first thought when reading your OP was Frankie

I think by retro you mean old-fashioned as the 60/70s names aren't seeming to be so popular

Martha
June (although not sure if you have a July/August due date)
Joanie
Lizzie or just Elizabeth so then you have Liz, Lizzie, Libby, Beth, Betty & Betsy!
Virginia AKA Ginnie
Jenny
