A sister for Jupiter?

We have decided to wait until the twins are born to decide their names as it seems we can't settle on two this time round. We're having b/g twins and have a list of possible names that flow and match each other as well as the other DC.

We both fell in love with Jupiter so it's on the list but cannot find a girl's name that matches (topic wise) or flows. We did love Astra Faye but sounds too close to Ash Tray!

We don't like Juniper, Juno as they're too close in name.

Any ideas?

Teachers will ptsl (piss themselves laughing) in the staff room.

'All rise for Judge Jupiter Maynard.......' WTAF!!!!

'This is Jupiter Foster, BBC news, in the Gulf......' Nope. Not good.

Please re think. Would you want to be called Jupiter?

MsJupiterJones · 20/09/2013 22:59

I think those sound great Ruprekt.

AlansCatalanCat · 20/09/2013 23:01

'This is Jupiter Foster, BBC news'

That is exactly where you hear names like that.

fatfinger · 20/09/2013 23:04

I thought entire thread was a piss take!!! Jupiter?!!! It won't just be the poor boy's teachers laughing

BalloonSlayer · 20/09/2013 23:08

Jupiter and Hera is just wrong wrong WRONG

Hera is the Greek name of the wife of the leader of the gods: Zeus.

Zeus's Roman name is Jupiter.

If you are talking about the king and queen of gods of Greek Mythology, you talk about Zeus and Hera. If you are talking about the king and queen of gods of Roman Mythology (same people) you talk about Jupiter and Juno.

Mixing them up? Oh no I don't think so really . . .

Not to mention these are husband and wife names. Confused

CressidaMontgomery · 20/09/2013 23:08

I'm HOWLING that this is actually serious! GrinGrin

It's not a child's name for God sake! You can be ' out there ' without being plain daft.

Jupiter Grin

curlew · 20/09/2013 23:09

He has to get through being a teenager before he becomes a newsreader. If you don't mind that he will have to say "Jupiter- yes, like the planet. Yes it is unusual- yes, I suppose they are a bit hippy-ish" or "No, not Julian, Jupiter" every single time he tells somebody his name for his entire life.......

honestly, don't do it. Get your Dp to change his name to Jupiter if you want the name in the family.

BalloonSlayer · 20/09/2013 23:15

cressida, I think you mean "for god sake!" Wink

Ruprekt · 20/09/2013 23:16

You are right.....nina Nanar on itn news got a job.........

missinglalaland · 20/09/2013 23:16

Hera?

charleslingus · 20/09/2013 23:25

My godfather is called Jupiter, he's done alright, has reached his 60's without having a nervous breakdown and has had a long and successful career in the film industry.

It's an awesome name.

BikeRunSki · 20/09/2013 23:25

Curlew, I once shared a flat with a chap called Sam. He used to say that he mentally thanked his parents every single time he told anyone his name; jib interview, girl at party, pizza divert, he loved his simple, unremarkable name.

DramaQueenofHighCs · 20/09/2013 23:37

Unfortunately yes, many kids do get bullied for many reasons and not all kids with unusual names get bullied. It's just unfortunate that the more unusual the name the more likely they are going to be bullied both by kids and unprofessional teachers who maybe don't mean to bully, but think they're being clever and original.

RhondaJean · 20/09/2013 23:42

Nina nanar is my favourite name EVER.

curlew · 20/09/2013 23:44

It's not about the bullying. If somebody wants to bully you they'll find a reason. It's about the sheer boredom of explanation. That is why a member of my family refused to go to secondary school unless they let him go as Tom. He was just bored with his name being the first thing anybody noticed about him. And the first thing anyone asked about. And the first thing he had to explain.

curlew · 20/09/2013 23:45

"Nina nanar is my favourite name EVER."

Better than Canaan Banana?

RhondaJean · 20/09/2013 23:46

Who who? Never heard of him!

I still think nina edges it.

MultipleMama · 21/09/2013 00:05

Thanks for all the input. As I said in the OP; it's on the list. I didn't say it was certain. However, I really am liking the name and nothing is really putting me off it.

Venus Williams has done alright for herself, I don't see why Jupiter can't.

As for bullying; I'd expect a teacher to be more professional than laugh a child and as for a child; I'd expect their parents to teach them to be open minded about others. It's what I teach my kids. There's a girl in ds's class called Storm which is unusual as Jupiter.

We're still considering other names but I think finding the girls name to go with Jupiter will be the deciding factor.

I don't mind the NN Ju.

MultipleMama · 21/09/2013 00:08

Nina Nanar just rolls off the tongue doesn't it? Imagine trying to pronounce your name drunk! "My name is Ninananar." :D

curlew · 21/09/2013 00:09

Did you read my post about it not being bullying that's the issue, but the boredom of explanation, and the impossibility of anonymity?

AnotherStitchInTime · 21/09/2013 00:17

Eris
Cybele
Ursula
Ishtar

MultipleMama · 21/09/2013 00:19

Curfew - Sorry, I just skimmed through the posts. I'll go back and reread...

If that's the case then I'd tell him if he doesn't want to explain it all the time, then he shouldn't have to. Just shrug at them and say ask my mum. As for anonymity; depends on what schools are like in 4+ years! Can't judge what isn't.

Fenella Fudge is the best name ever.

Condoleeza Rice has done all right for herself.

Jupe is a good nickname. Rupert Campbell black was called Rupe. And that's ok.

Perhaps I shouldn't base my life on Jilly Cooper novels.

BUT Jupiter was a JC character, and he had a brother called Viridian.

So that's that.

I have drunk wine.

Elektra with a K is marvellous.

I don't like Nyx though darling.

Fuck me I have turned into patsy stone.
