From another site discussing the most unusual names, I found this gem:

I thought I picked unusual names for my kids lol
Riley (9), Logan (5), Kai (3) and Jorji-Mae (16weeks)
To be fair my eldest two are the only ones in their school
Some people go too far when picking names for their children xx

She calls her child Jorji-Mae and thinks some people go to far.

Well yes, Pot Kettle hun.

I just think its hilarious when people come onto a thread just to be 'outraged' and no one else gives a damm.

I struggled to keep a straight face, I always thought of rimming.

Could be worse. I have a colleague whose name is Rim. She's Tunisian. (And a right bitch so I don't feel too bad sniggering at her name).

changechangechange · 09/06/2013 19:47

Wow, OP. What a sneering prick you seem.

I'm always perplexed by the people on MN who insist on 'pitying' children with unusually-spelled names. In my experience (professionally and as a parent), it is not that much of a hiccup at all. Perhaps it's because I live in a working class, multicultural area, we're all somehow less snotty about 'chavvy' or 'R&B' names?

Fwiw, my DS' name is "real" (biblical), not top 100, but almost invariably complimented when it occasionally features on these threads, so I'm not taking personal offence here. I just think you're being a knob. HTH.

Christabel3 · 09/06/2013 20:32

I agree Changechangechange. I'm not outraged either. OP you're missing a irony here. Children's names are not the only clue people give out unwittingly. So, {ponders} I guess I'm doing to you what you're doing to the poster on netmums Grin Grin

usualsuspect · 09/06/2013 20:35

See,OP.

other people do give a damn.

Fancy that.

Two of my dc's names are on that thread.

Yet didnt count their names as 'out there' myself.

AlwaysWashing · 09/06/2013 21:09

Oh fgs lighten up this IS FUNNY!!!!!

If you call your children crazy, out there names you surely expect a bit of a ribbing or if you call them something super chavvy (oh flame away, I don't care) then you probably don't give a monkies.

Pystol is priceless!!! Quite like Sparrow and Wren but wouldn't have used them I don't think. My 2 have less than traditional names, nothing daft but one of my Aunts did comment "What happened to normal names like John & David?).

Each to their own but you have to have a giggle along the way!

ExitPursuedByABear · 09/06/2013 21:14

Pistol is Shakespearean. Quite highbrow.

I laugh at your ignorance.

ToTiredToBeWitty · 10/06/2013 11:52

I laugh at pistol.

Shakespear or not.

The great thing about MN is because I can namechange so your sneering means nothing to me. Water off a ducks back.

If only it were so easy for the poor children given stupid names to namechange to avoid the sneering.

OP posts:
ChasingStaplers · 10/06/2013 12:02

Poster on that thread said these names were from a 'friend' on another parenting forum:

Gotham Delilah Ice
Thyotaizia
Blaze Victoria Tess
Pystol Alyzabeth Fierce
Storm Thunder Ulysses

Come on, which one of you is it?

I came to this thread ready to tell OP off because my boys have unusual names but having read that thread they're having a sneer and a bash too so it's fair game IMO.

Christabel3 · 10/06/2013 12:06

My sneering? I love your sense of humour.

ToTiredToBeWitty · 10/06/2013 12:12

Why thank you

I don't really understand why people have hatred for different sites? Hmm What's so funny about their baby naming threads? Can't really see the difference between theirs and the ones on here to be honest. I happily use both sites to get ideas for baby names. Everyone mocks NMs for being nice to posters but what's wrong with being nice?

If someone posts "what do you think of me calling my baby seabizkit?" I think the meanest I get is "Seriously??" but then say it's up to them at the end of the day. I'm just not very good at being horrible. I'll probably be kicked off here now Wink

ExitPursuedByABear · 10/06/2013 12:31

I try hard to be polite too.

Amazinggg · 10/06/2013 12:39

You do sound like a knob OP. Have been here for years and I'm pretty sure straight talking humour doesn't include directly quoting a well-meaning poster from another website. It's sneaky and unnecessary and I hope she doesn't read this. If you did it to a post within MN would you feel so within your rights?

ToTiredToBeWitty · 10/06/2013 13:23

Search the archives Amazinggg.

Its old hat.

Funny old hat - unless your child is call something stupid, then it can be quite offensive hence the need for the defensiveness shown on this thread

Have you even bothered to read the thread on nethuns before jumping on your moral highground? They themselves are taking the piss. Even they can reconise a stupid name when they see it unlike some on here

OP posts:
ToTiredToBeWitty · 10/06/2013 13:34

I might link this thread to the old MN'ers on twitter.

'Tis a prime example of why so many of them have left.

The professionally offended hijacking every thread.

How dare you accuse me of being a PO.

Flounces

FunnysInLaJardin · 10/06/2013 14:54

I remember the days when it was practicall de riguer to pop over to nethuns to laugh at the tumble weed and the fact that noone ever went there.

Christabel3 · 10/06/2013 18:50

I'm an old mner. I just name-change regularly. I can't read the thread on netmums because to post in your style Grin Grin unlike you I'm not registered.

I doubt posters leave mumsnet in their droves because other posters aren't nasty enough , but who knows.... You could have your own religion by Wednesday. Nothing surprises me or outrages me that much.

My children don't have stupid names as you've implied a few times. Do yours? Even if we ripped the piss out of your children's names we'd still at least be doing it to your face, so even that wouldn't be comparable.

Amazinggg, I agree. I hope she doesn't read it. People google their children's names. The "poor children" OP is concerned about might be the ones to google their names.

ToTiredToBeWitty · 10/06/2013 19:02

No, they left because MN became full of people that take offence to everything. And not only do they take offence, they linger on the threads that they are offended by, just to make it absolutely clear to everybody, that they are personally offended.

And then after that, they post again that they are offended.

Then they come back to tell everybody once again that they are offended.

And then they post again, to say the world is probably offended.

Then they namecheck anyone else in the thread that is offended.

And then, just in case anyone has forgotten, they post again that they are offended. Ad infinitum

Just like you Wink
