From another site discussing the most unusual names, I found this gem:

I thought I picked unusual names for my kids lol
Riley (9), Logan (5), Kai (3) and Jorji-Mae (16weeks)
To be fair my eldest two are the only ones in their school
Some people go too far when picking names for their children xx

She calls her child Jorji-Mae and thinks some people go to far.

Well yes, Pot Kettle hun.

I'd love to know what tootiredtobewitty 's children are called. It'd be sporting of her to offer up that information.

usualsuspect · 07/06/2013 23:25

Not recently though TBH.

I've been clutching my pearls for years.

KittenofDoom · 07/06/2013 23:26

I'm chuckling at the woman "who called her daughter a name she made up herself, and spelt it wrong"

How would anyone know it was spelt wrong?

DonDrapersAltrEgoBigglesDraper · 08/06/2013 05:25

There is an MNer with a DD called Jorgia (at least, I think that is the spelling) who's had to defend the spelling on here before. Eek if she wonders onto this thread...

Jorgi-Mae is, um ... not to my taste, shall we say. But each to their own, etc, etc.

ThisIsYourSong · 08/06/2013 06:00

Jorgi is actually a name according to babycentre. I don't mind Jorgi-Mae. It's different but has a nice sound to it

ToTiredToBeWitty · 08/06/2013 07:10

DD1's one name is in the top 100 but not 10. Classic English name.

DD2's name isn't in the top 100 but is another classic English name with famous literal references. There is another thread on here at atm discussing the diminutive form of it - which everyone on that thread seems to love.

TheFantasticFixit - It's good to know there are people with a sense of humour and common sense still on MN.

We used to do this a lot right? I can't remember anyone getting offended when it was all green fields round here well except those who have called their children daft names and actually belonged on Nethuns

Lolz

I don't normally do NM piss taking but that thread is something else.

It's like an alternative universe Grin

Christabel3 · 08/06/2013 09:40

I've been around for years, 7. I name-change frequently. This is the first time I remember anybody dragging over a thread from another forum.

Lots of posters here will ask for opinions on similar names. You could tell them. At least they'd be able to respond, or request the thread was deleted.

I have a sense of humour and plenty of common sense. It's an interesting definition of common sense you have, that being left unchallenged to mock people is 'common sense'. It's not exactly common decency either. You are reassured that there are still people who won't challenge you for being a donkey. clutch your own pearls and chew on some hay.

I'd still love to know what your own children are called. If you are as insouciant as you claim you would share with us?! Smile

RoooneyMara · 08/06/2013 09:44

Literary? rather than literal?

fuckingscabies · 08/06/2013 10:42

It's not 'common sense' to rip the piss and you don't have to be a dick to have a sense of humour. I too have never seen anyone start a thread about a thread on another site. And you're in no position to criticise anyone's spelling OP.

ladymia · 08/06/2013 11:48

Why not have the guts to take on the poster on the other site? I think it's a bit cowardly to say nothing on that thread and bring it over here?

BoffinMum · 08/06/2013 12:33

Ladymia, they delete anything that's not gushing. That's why I don't go on there. Free speech is not allowed.

FunnysInLaJardin · 08/06/2013 13:25

god, this thread turned out to be a right larf in the end then

Interestingly they seem to be allowed to use the words chav and chavvy over there. Whereas here it is virtually taboo, while it's OK to sneer at a name for being "too posh". Inverted snobbery, anyone?

overmydeadbody · 08/06/2013 16:04

Actually in the old days it used to be quite common practice to post about a thread from 'nethuns' in order to laugh at it. Mostly it would be laughing at the tickers and kisses and hunning.

FairyArmadillo · 08/06/2013 16:30

I hate myself for having a laugh at that thread. It does seem a bit unkind. But to be honest I've laughed at Strummer, Chloe-Kitten (which is now growing on me) and Nivek (Kevin backwards). I quite like Riley though. My cousin has a DS named Riley.

snooter · 08/06/2013 18:40

Jorji-Mae is awful. Why spell it like that? - oh, to be "different" so everyone will get it wrong for the rest of the child's life.

Georgie-May - still awful IMO but some improvement

ToTiredToBeWitty · 09/06/2013 08:36

Thank you OMDB - I thought I wasn't imagining that! Smile

ToTiredToBeWitty · 09/06/2013 08:37

Yes the too posh made me Grin as well.

I don't understand the standards. 'Too posh' is awful but trailer trash names like Jorji-Mae are fine! Confused

mummybare · 09/06/2013 10:20

my daughter went to school with a child called Ashanti Rose! which i thought was different. my girls are Chloe-Kitten and Minnie with middle names Mary Marie so Minnie Mary Marie in total lol. we just call her Min or Minnie.

usualsuspect · 09/06/2013 13:07

The term 'trailer trash' has never been acceptable on MN.

ToTiredToBeWitty · 09/06/2013 13:31

Yeh Just like the word 'Chav' is unacceptable but is implied on every other thread.

Snort.

It is a good day for the world when all there is to get het up about is this.

usualsuspect · 09/06/2013 13:44

It's a good day in my world , when people get het up about the terms 'trailer trash and Chav' yes.
