Baby names

Which completely inoffensive names do you absolutely hate for no justifiable reason?

I will start.

Francis.

Loathe it. Couldn't say why really. There are no bad connotations - it's neither 'chav' nor 'toff'. It's not made-up or too-trendy or old-fashioned. I couldn't say that the sound of it is awful. It doesn't remind me someone who bullied me at school. It's not even boring. I just fucking hate that name. Whenever I am introduced to a new baby called Francis, my reaction is always: "But why? For pity's sake, why? Out of all the possible names available, you chose Francis? You have some seriously terrible taste there, people." "Gosh, how lovely."

Same goes for Christopher. And Jenny.

Perfectly inoffensive names. Could give no good reason for my antipathy whatsoever.

I hate the name's Gemma and Debbie. Every single person who I have known called these names ( a lot ) I have not got on with.

OP have you read Freakonomics? Whole section in there about names and how/what they indicate/represent. Book based in cold, hard quantitative data and am interesting read...

I am going to start a thread asking if I should call my (imaginary) baby Awol. How many votes do you think I'd get?

This thread reminds me of a very funny email that did the rounds absolutely years ago. Well, at least I thought it was funny but then I do have a pureile sense of humour. It was called 'Boys' Names and their Meanings' but it was actually just basically a run-down of slightly annoying or random character traits that the writer had observed in boys/men she knew. So it was stuff like "Richard: eats with his hands" or "John: can't do oral properly" or "Dan: a bit creepy about his mum". It made me laugh loads.

Milly and Molly are pet names. I own a Milly and my parents own a Molly

Both are fine nicknames for other names though. Just not on the birth certificates. In my opinion.

Anything ending in '-May', eg 'Lacie-May'. Makes my skin crawl.

I also have an irrational dislike of 'Olivia' and 'Imogen'. Oh, and 'Megan'. For boys names, I really dislike 'Braydon'. It reminds me of horses.
