Baby names

Which completely inoffensive names do you absolutely hate for no justifiable reason?

I will start.

Francis.

Loathe it. Couldn't say why really. There are no bad connotations - it's neither 'chav' nor 'toff'. It's not made-up or too-trendy or old-fashioned. I couldn't say that the sound of it is awful. It doesn't remind me someone who bullied me at school. It's not even boring. I just fucking hate that name. Whenever I am introduced to a new baby called Francis, my reaction is always: "But why? For pity's sake, why? Out of all the possible names available, you chose Francis? You have some seriously terrible taste there, people." "Gosh, how lovely."

Same goes for Christopher. And Jenny.

Perfectly inoffensive names. Could give no good reason for my antipathy whatsoever.

Poppy/Evie/Ellie/Milly/Tilly
Archie/Alfie/Artie/Bertie

Not sure if that is a rational or irrational hate but I find these names so overused and dull.

Agree re. Toby. Sounds so wet, I don't know why! Reminds me of a grown man sucking his thumb or something

I think there's a pronunciation thing with Freya. When I first heard it, about 30 years ago, it was "Frere" a bit like the french word. Now it seems to be "Fray-er", which I dont like so much.

Isaac and Jacob are awful! I think we have Twighlight to thank for Jacob's new popularity!

For no reason at all I can't stand Alexander, think it's because it's always shortened to Alex and then it could be a boy or girl!

Just read whole thread. Neither of my DCs are listed at all, but both their "if he had been a girl" names are, repeatedly. As am I, but I dislike it too!

I think it is totally reasonable to have irrational hate names. I didn't list my rational hate names. The reason I gave for the first group is apparently coincidental - DS1 is OT too but in a different way.

Samuel, Isaac, Isaiah, Jacob - anything very Old Testament.

Lucas, Elliott - just fucking hate these names. No reason.

Cheeky chappie 'He's a real little BOY, our boy'-ish names - Harry, Charlie, Alfie, Jack, Finn and that ilk of names. Bore off.
