Baby names

Which completely inoffensive names do you absolutely hate for no justifiable reason?

I will start.

Francis.

Loathe it. Couldn't say why really. There are no bad connotations - it's neither 'chav' nor 'toff'. It's not made-up or too-trendy or old-fashioned. I couldn't say that the sound of it is awful. It doesn't remind me someone who bullied me at school. It's not even boring. I just fucking hate that name. Whenever I am introduced to a new baby called Francis, my reaction is always: "But why? For pity's sake, why? Out of all the possible names available, you chose Francis? You have some seriously terrible taste there, people." "Gosh, how lovely."

Same goes for Christopher. And Jenny.

Perfectly inoffensive names. Could give no good reason for my antipathy whatsoever.

DH mentioned 3 times, DS only once.

I, somehow, have escaped even though I personally think I have the most "Marmite" name of the three of us. Other people with my name are generally bitches - I'm obviously the exception Grin

My mum used to tell me never trust a man called Miles/Myles or a man that drives a Capri.

So understandably not keen on Miles!

Rio. Especially not on a boy.

I'm surprised my Ds name has not been mentioned. Although it would be classed as a 'cutesy' name ending in ie but its so old people prob don't think about it.

The only name I dislike (that i can think of) is Melanie. I don't no why but it just sounds meh.

For all those who dislike Ellie, my sister called her baby... Ellie-Alison. What do you think of that?

Also can someone explain how a name is wet?

Haha, DH and DS on here but not me!

I'm reading this thread going 'yes, oh yes, that one too!' I think I hate a lot of names.

I have always hated the name Gemma. Makes me shiver just thinking about it.

I also hate Dilys, Poppy, Lucas (just sounds evil!).

I'm sure I'll think of loads more.

Page ten and the dcs are still in the clear! Is that a record?
It is odd because previously have seen their names being slagged off loads!

Cheeky chappie 'He's a real little BOY, our boy'-ish names - Harry, Charlie, Alfie, Jack, Finn and that ilk of names. Bore off.

Totally agree MichelleObarmy!

Samuel, Isaac, Isaiah, Jacob - anything very Old Testament.

Lucas, Elliott - just fucking hate these names. No reason.

Just read whole thread. Neither of my DCs are listed at all, but both their "if he had been a girl" names are, repeatedly. As am I, but I dislike it too!

I think it is totally reasonable to have irrational hate names. I didn't list my rational hate names. The reason I gave for the first group is apparently coincidental - DS1 is OT too but in a different way.

Isaac and Jacob are awful! I think we have Twighlight to thank for Jacob's new popularity!

For no reason at all I can't stand Alexander, think it's because it's always shortened to Alex and then it could be a boy or girl!

Colin (see above)

Freya - can't stand it

Report
boschy · 21/11/2012 13:08

I think there's a pronunciation thing with Freya. When I first heard it, about 30 years ago, it was "Frere" a bit like the french word. Now it seems to be "Fray-er", which I dont like so much.
