Which completely inoffensive names do you absolutely hate for no justifiable reason?

I will start.

Francis.

Loathe it. Couldn't say why really. There are no bad connotations - it's neither 'chav' nor 'toff'. It's not made-up or too-trendy or old-fashioned. I couldn't say that the sound of it is awful. It doesn't remind me someone who bullied me at school. It's not even boring. I just fucking hate that name. Whenever I am introduced to a new baby called Francis, my reaction is always: "But why? For pity's sake, why? Out of all the possible names available, you chose Francis? You have some seriously terrible taste there, people." "Gosh, how lovely."

Same goes for Christopher. And Jenny.

Perfectly inoffensive names. Could give no good reason for my antipathy whatsoever.

francis is my middle name, and family name so gran, mum and dd have it as middle names
really like the fact it is unusual (wouldn't use it as a first name though

I dislike ordinary names that sound ordinary, like catherine. I won't mention the others as don't want to offend.

Or hippy flower power names
Or names of places used as first names
Or surnames used as first names

There IS always a reson for not liking something, isn't there? Personally I don't like cutesy nicknames like Archie, Alfie, Artie, Poppy, Evie, Ellie, Molly. I prefer more 'solid' names.

Yeah but surely you don't like Francis because it sounds ugly to you or you hate the way it looks on paper. There has to be a reason, however small.

I'm not keen on the name Gertrude. It just sounds ugly to me - any name with rude in it just sounds yucky to me. It might not be much of a reason but it's still a reason. :o (I know that I'm just being awkward)

There's probably loads more like that. I notice that part of a name is unappealing in some way and then it's all I can see in it.

I don't like any ending in -bel, -ine or -ette either.

Emily. I know it is a perfectly pleasant, if overly popular name, but I just can't stand it. I also loathe Amanda as I have never met an Amanda or Mandy that I like. Conversely, I love the name Ruth, but until recently had never met one that I liked (and the one I do like is a MNer).

I don't get why anyone would be upset at someone not liking your/your child's name. Names are so very personal, I can only think of one or two friends that have chosen names I would even consider. I can make polite noises when necessary! I'm sure lots of people hate DS's name, I don't care because I love it.

Charlotte. I was at school with a girl called Charlotte and her parents gave her chocolate every day in her packing-up even though the school had a policy not to and they kicked up a right old fuss and carried on doing it when they were told to stop. This was generally considered shocking behaviour. She had sticky-out teeth and when she ate her chocolate it all stuck to the front of her sticky-out teeth and looked bleee while she talked with her mouth full (of chocolate).

I realise that none of this is her fault.
