What names would you choose?

I think mine would by Ayla for a girl (from the earth children series) and Harry for a boy (from Harry Potter Blush)

Me too Choceyes!

The only down side is I have to bite my tongue when I hear friends or relatives making fun of some poor child's rediculous name. I'm sure there are people who have done that behind my back but actually, I don't really mind. I feel like if they have read the book and have a soul they would understand!

And I have a Jem.

I names DD1 Keziah (Kizzy) after the main character in The Diddakoi which was read to us at school when I was 10. I decided then if I had a girl I wanted to call her Kizzy. 27 years later, wish granted! Smile

As choceyes says, it took a bit of gumption as I am now constantly having to spell it out, but hopefully she will thank me for it when she is older Hmm

And in an old testament kind of way (Keziah is also one of Job's daughters) it goes with DS1 Jacob and DS2 Samuel!

Great thread! Thanks

...but now I wish I had called DS2 SamWISE insteand of SamUEL as he IS a little hobbit!

TeWiDoesTheHulaInHawaii · 14/08/2012 10:55

I also wanted to call DS Lafayette.

It's an awesome name.

winkle2 · 14/08/2012 13:54

Ursula after Ursula Bear!

winkle2 · 14/08/2012 13:54

Nancy after Nancy Drew!

Thank you turtledoves!

My mum set a bit of a precedent for this with an Emma and an Elizabeth so my daughter ended up with Elinor as a middle.

theTramp · 14/08/2012 15:18

Would you sat Motgan was a boys name or a girls?

theTramp · 14/08/2012 15:46

Or even Morgan (bad typing)

DoItOnce · 14/08/2012 15:51

I like Leander after Leander Bear from the book The Bears Famous Invasion of Italy for a boy. I guess he would get called Lee which isn't as nice.

Leanderbear was my NN on here a while ago.

Out of interest has any worked out how many Atticus'es were born last year from the Baby Name Statistics? I couldn't see it and I can't seem to work the search function on my ipad?

imagines twins called Atticus and Leander hmm

That would end up being Gruffalo (poor kid), Carrot (from all the Discworld novels), Sam (from the Discworld novels again), Luna (Harry Potter) and Cut-me-own-Throat (again, Discworld). I might have Alice (in Wonderland) in there too.

That's sad- my kids would be called-
Gruffalo
Carrot
Sam (I like the name Sam)
Luna (pretty name)
Cut-me-own-Throat (nn could be Throat?)
Alice.

I think Alice and Sam would count their blessings every day for being called ordinary names.

Marnie. Not from a classic, it's a (I think) little known book by Sheryl Jordan called The Raging Quiet. The character was fab.

KatoPotato · 28/08/2012 14:56

Gobbolino the Witches Cat....

StanleyAccrington · 28/08/2012 15:00

DC1 is named after a Salinger character
DC2 is named after a Jane Austen character - I got the idea from the book although I don't particularly like the character.

I did also campaign for Calypso (Camomile Lawn) and Cordelia (King Lear), but both were vetoed by DH.
