What names would you choose?

I think mine would by Ayla for a girl (from the earth children series) and Harry for a boy (from Harry Potter Blush)

Well you learn something new...! I always thought that from Swallows and Amazons was Titian! as in the artist!
Anyway, I'd still have Titian as a nod towards SAA! She was always the character that I most wante to be as a child. Titty ROCKED! She was so brave and clever and inventive!
Other than that, I just adore Melanie Wilkes from Gone With The Wind.
Wendy isn't bad either.

theTramp · 13/08/2012 14:49

Ohh - Beth or Jo? Or did you have another favourite?

SirEdmundFrillary · 13/08/2012 14:51

Bertie or Dougal for a boy and Corky for a girl.

dementedma · 13/08/2012 15:03

Aragorn?

shezzle · 13/08/2012 15:05

We had dd3 in April this year, baby Alice! Dd's 1 and 2 decided baby had to be a girl and had to be an Alice in wonderland! God knows what he would have been if a boy, probably Captain Underpants if they had their way, rather diverse taste in books my children have!! Grin

I have an Emily.
She's named after a character in another series of books by LM Montgomery (Anne of Green gables author). I loved Anne, but I preferred the Emily of New Moon series.
It also comes a bit from Bagpuss! It's such a happy coincidence that my favourite TV show as a child, and my favourite series of books, had a heroine with the same name.
Found my Mum whispering to dd, not long after she was born "Your Mummy always wanted a little girl called Emily and now she's got you - do you know how special that makes you?" Made me well up a bit! Have bought dd a set of the Emily books for when she's older.

I also have an Emily, named after my favourite book when I was a little girl. Blackberry Farm, Emily was the goat Grin and I decided then if I had a baby girl I wanted her to be called Emily, I also wanted a Farm which I would call Blackberry Farm, but sadly that hasnt happened Sad. I bought her a first edition for her 18th birthday. Not quite a classic, but was to me when I was about 6! Smile

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 13/08/2012 15:40

Oooh, I love Emily of New Moon! Have just finished reading them again on my Kindle.

Lavinia from A Little Princess Blush

Shortbutsosweet · 13/08/2012 15:42

I chose the name Nathan my DH chose christopher as middle name, which I thought was lovely, then he told me it was a character from xmen comics!

Shortbutsosweet · 13/08/2012 15:49

Oops I forget to mention I chose Nathan as I'm a big prince fan and in his song sign of the times, "we will get married have a baby we will call him Nate if it's boy"

StuntNun · 13/08/2012 16:31

Beowulf from Larry Niven's Known Space.

sausageandpickle · 13/08/2012 16:51

As a name I really liked Jennet from the Woman in Black, but as she was the mad howling ghost I don't think I could inflict it on a baby!! Also like Ruth (Swallows and Amazons) Jane (Eyre) and Emma. Not so sure about boys, although the names I have given my 3 do all regularly appear in tv shows etc etc

LadyofWinterfell · 13/08/2012 17:43

DS was going to be Lara Faith, after Lara Raith from Jim Butcher's Dresden books.

iamamyp · 13/08/2012 17:46

I have a Bella - named after the very kind big sister from the Shirley Hughes book Dogger... but realised afterwards that lots of people think it's after the Twilight books!
And a Douglas after Douglas Coupland and a Megan from his book Girlfriend in a Coma.
Totally love Laurie and Jem too if we ever have any more boys...

gettinganumbbum · 13/08/2012 17:48

My dd is ayla after the earths children series Grin

Weekipper · 13/08/2012 17:53

Just like Fanjopingpong I'm a disc world fan and Granny Weatherwax kicks ass! I'm actually overdue and don't know gender so you never know...

LittleWhiteWolf · 13/08/2012 18:06

DD is named Bridget after the character in The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants. The first came out when I was 15 and I just fell in love with it. I'm glad no-one has made a connection with Bridget Jones who she is most definitely NOT named for.

Since having DS I have discovered A Song of Ice and Fire and now I have a whole bunch of names/characters I need to have children for Wink

Astr0naut · 13/08/2012 18:07

THEtramp, it had to be Jo. Even ended up marrying an older man. But he's not German. ANd we don't have a boy farm. Grin

C0smos · 13/08/2012 18:07

Not mentioned yet
Ofred from handmaids tale - did we ever get her real

Katniss from hunger games

Scout was always on my list when I was younger, but Demi Moore ruined this for me

issynoko · 13/08/2012 18:15

I know 4 Lyras. And couldn't stand those books myself.

My children are called Heffalump, Snape and Wonka.

CleoSmackYa · 13/08/2012 18:17

I had an Imogen from both The Forsyte Saga, and What Katy Did.

CleoSmackYa · 13/08/2012 18:17

Ooh and Shakespeare. Shouldn't forget that!

theTramp · 13/08/2012 18:24

Ditto on the dislike of the Dark Materials books (I could rant on awfulness for ages).

Jo - fantastic! Does she have lovely hair?

PicklesThePottyMouthedParrot · 13/08/2012 18:26

I misread katniss as catpiss once and it stuck in my head for the whole book. Sad

MatriarchalDreams · 13/08/2012 18:41

We have named my daughter after one of our favourite literary characters - she's Arya which is actually for an elf from the Inheritance Cycle novels (Eragon) rather than from Game of Thrones, however, I have also read Game of Thrones and like the Arya in that too. She's only a month old but think we're going to be spelling/pronouncing it rather a lot, not too bothered by that atm, we knew that would probably be the case when we chose an unusual name, however, she might not thanks us later in life!
I had Atticus on my boys' list as To Kill a Mockingbird is probably my all-time favourite novel, however, DH wasn't that keen, I think he might have been a bit more open to it if he'd actually read it as I've been trying to get him to do for years! We also had Lyra on our girl's shortlist.
