She really was named after the drink. Remi-Martin is definitely a boys name. My children are called Thunderbird and Special-Brew.

The first bits of these names are ok but why, in the name of all thats holy, would you hyphenate like this?? Just ghastly. Ask her when her daughter is hoping to move into her first trailer.....

There was one child in DD's class at primary school with a hyphenated name. No-one ever used the second part of the name

I was tormented at school by being called 'Kizzie-from-Roots'. With any luck that connotation has been forgotten now, though!

There are plenty of traditional hyphenated names; they've not always had such negative connotations (though admittedly Mary or Anne are usually obligatory components, which won't work if she wants Anne as a middle name).

To be fair, judging from this thread almost nobody on mumsnet likes any of the name choices proposed - I think the most recent suggestions are even worse that the earlier suggestions.

Rarely have I seen such a huge raft of unfavourable opinions tbh. However, perhaps your friend is ahead of the curve here?

What about Kezia-Jane? I like Kezia. I think of it as being quite hippyish and folky. I also love Marie-Louise.

I know someone called Kizzy, but it's not her actual name for pete's sake, it's a silly nickname we use for her. She wouldn't put it on her CV...

I would have to find a tactful way of saying those names, um, lack class? I don't know how I would do this though. Prehaps mention that her DD may oneday need to use something a little more traditional. She needs a name that sounds good wether she's a rock star or a solicitor.

Kizzi is usually short for Kristina for example.

Hyphenated names are not my style, but it is your friend's child.

I really don't buy into the idea that names shape destinies. Your friend should name her child something she thinks is beautiful, that is all that matters.

She could use Anna which has the same meaning as Anne. Lily- Anna is quite sweet (and a bit more unusual than Lily May). And then something else for middle name.

Tia rose is nice, I think (although reminds me of tea roses!)

See, I don't really get the difference between Lily-May and Lily May. The name is the same, why is it so awful with the hyphen but ok without?

I'm a Rebecca-Jane and nobody has ever made assumptions about my hyphen (that I know of!) I am also hardly ever known by both names and most people wouldn't know I had a hyphen. It's really not a big deal.

I quite like Lily-May and Lexi but not Jean, Leigh or Kizzi

Tia means aunt in spanish. tia maria is Aunt Maria and tio pepe is Uncle pepe.

I like Lily-May, very pretty but also very popular.

I would probably go with Kezia Anne with Kizzi as a nickname, or Alexia/Alexa/Alexis/Alexandra Jean(ne) with Lexi as a nickname if it was me.

Ohh yes Thea-Rose is gorgeous. Posh enough to appease the pretentious MC types and much nicer than Tia-Rose, but still has the hyphen to entertain the peasants so everybody's happy. Yay!

So if Tia means Auntie in spanish, it must seem quite strange to spanish speakers when someone introduces themselves as Auntie Rose (Tia-Rose.)

Honestly? I utterly dislike all of them. In fact there's only 2 names contained within the 6 the 6 that I would even countenance as a name.

Hate Kizzy, anything hyphenated, anything containing Mae or Rae, etc...

In fact I'm struggling to think of three worse names for a little girl.
