Is she a good friend?

If so be honest. They are bloody awful and even worse hypenated! (Not that you can say that, like! Be a bit more subtle) Grin

Oh dear. What is this obsession with adding - Leigh to everything?

And what was the name you used she didn't like?

usualsuspect · 08/07/2012 19:39

I thought Mnetters liked an old lady name Grin

Badvoc · 08/07/2012 19:39

Lily may at a push but the others are a bit...erm...towie-ish?

Badvoc · 08/07/2012 19:40

I see them and raise you a Darcy Elsie....

Takver · 08/07/2012 19:40

Lily-May is pretty, but it is quite popular. Why not Kizzi-May - the other two are a bit of a tonguetwister IMO, and I rather like doublebarreled names.

Grace Mary nn Gracie-May is also nice, and Grace Mary Ann would be a pretty combination.

FellatioNelson · 08/07/2012 19:40

Enid. enid has to be the worst, ugliest name on the planet. And yes, bizarrely, Edith is beautiful.

Edith-Rose. There you are. Although I doubt she's going to buy it somehow.

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 08/07/2012 19:40

A teacher or examiner should (and will) know a bit better than that!

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 08/07/2012 19:41

I had a pet rat called Enid.

picnicbasketcase · 08/07/2012 19:41

I can't stand hyphenated names either, I just think they look tacky and indecisive. Lily is the nicest name out of them, Kizzy and Lexi are alright ish but all of them look terrible with something else tacked onto the end. Sorry.

ChunkysMum · 08/07/2012 19:43

bringbacksideburns dd is named Eliza Katherine.

Hermione-India

One for the posh lot Grin

cakeismysaviour · 08/07/2012 19:43

As her friend, I would just be honest and say you don't like them, but its her child and she should pick the one she likes most.

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 08/07/2012 19:44

Lilia is lovely, don't think she'll bite Wink

I'd be suggesting names that sound a bit hyphenated but aren't

Leanne
Lilian
Marianne
Rosemary
Tamara

erm there are more. don't know what.

The Kezia Jean nn kizzi-jean / Alexa Leigh nn lexi-leigh tack might work.

FellatioNelson · 08/07/2012 19:44

Well there's old lady chic and then there is <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=ena+sharples+minnie+caldwell+and&hl=en&sa=X&rlz=1T4ADFA_enGB417GB418&biw=1140&bih=545&tbm=isch&prmd=imvnso&tbnid=dXZ0RcCqORP5iM:&imgrefurl=johnmarkcole.blogspot.com/2010/12/killer-corrie-quotes-no1.html&docid=RNLXjs6faJQ0VM&imgurl=4.bp.blogspot.com/_HpeQJHldhV8/TP0R4dTOPyI/AAAAAAAAAIs/aI4hBb8phHM/s1600/Ena-Sharples1.jpg&w=290&h=400&ei=jtT5T6wGtJXRBbeI2KMH&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=710&vpy=166&dur=186&hovh=264&hovw=191&tx=106&ty=258&sig=109153763787606708717&page=1&tbnh=164&tbnw=115&start=0&ndsp=10&ved=1t:429,r:8,s:0,i:98" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this kind of thing

Be a good friend and tell her none of those hyphenated names will be taken seriously in professional circles and she needs to choose a name and put it as such on the birth certificate which her dd won't be embarrassed to use as an adult: Alexis, Jean, Kezia, May, Lily, Jean. These names are fine used singly but not grouped/ hyphenated with each other. If she wants to called her dd Lilly May etc then she can do so as a nn or family pet name. I still smile and mouth wtf every time I get an email from a head of HR called Teddi-Sue!

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 08/07/2012 19:45

Blimey Edith-Rose is indeed pleasent Shock

ataglance · 08/07/2012 19:47

I don't like any of them I'm afraid; Lily-May being the best of a bad bunch. If I were you I would combine a white lie with constructive criticism:

"They're lovely names for a little girl (lie), but I would probably choose something slightly more traditional like (insert nice name). I'd be worried that your dd would prefer a more grown up formal name when she's older. You can always use a cute nickname when she's younger."

Grin
usualsuspect · 08/07/2012 19:47

She made head of PR despite being called Teddi-sue Shock

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 08/07/2012 19:47

I don't think any of the names are bad enough to affect a child's future at all to be honest. And if she wishes she can simply go by one of the names when she is older.

Whilst I don't like hyphens it's not a disaster.

TidyDancer · 08/07/2012 19:48

I too dislike the old lady/old man names that many here like. For eg, I think Lily Allen has horrific taste in names and that my friend who has twins called Marilyn and Blanche should be taken outside and shot immediately.

But I don't think Lily-May, Kizzi-Leigh or Lexi-Jean are any better whatsoever. They are frankly awful. Lily alone would be fine, Kizzi is okay if it's actually Kezia (again, mustn't be hyphenated), and Lexi is only acceptable as a NN for Alexandra or Alexis, etc.

ChunkysMum · 08/07/2012 19:52

Edith Rose is lovely - my friend HATES Edith.

She's not coming over now (too tired - don't blame her I was always tired when pregnant) but I have been brave and mentioned that, although our naming styles are different, I seriously think that her names won't be very helpful to her dd when she's grown.

She's not convinced but is happy for me to come up with a shortlist that we can look at together although the hyphen HAS to stay.

So:

Lilia-?
Kezia-?

blondieminx · 08/07/2012 19:52

Lily-May is quite sweet in an old fashioned way (and the best of the bunch) but I'm not a fan of hyphenated names.

The second one is dreadful it sounds like the name of an Ann Summers lingerie item, trashy. Just no.

Lexi is nice but Lexi-Jean sounds like a denim range Grin

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 08/07/2012 19:53

May!

picnicbasketcase · 08/07/2012 19:53

Lilia-Grace
Kezia-Leigh
