DH and I both teachers and looking for quirky names!

My DH and I are both teachers and don't want a name that will remind us of any pupil in particular- so we need something quirky/unusual but not totally "out there"!
DS is 14 months and called Logan- a name which is unusual but not in the realms of wacky and everyone seems to love it.
DC2 due in August and we don't know the sex.
Any ideas?
We've come up with a couple:
Blake
Riley
Noah

Violet
Scarlet (I don't like but DH does!)
Summer (too corney for an August baby??)

Another vote for Eric, in my mind he is a blonde American teen snow border dude, not a middle aged man in nhs glasses.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 19/02/2012 20:48

I have an atticus too! but hes a dog

I know the list is closed but you might like:
Asher
Coltrane
Marley
Lennon
Asa
Cassius
Levi
Hendrix
Rudy
Billy

Y'know just incase you need anymore ideas (these a just a few of my DC's names and you are welcome to them)

BTW I wasnt being rude about Atticus - I only gave it to my dog because I thought I wasnt having anymore babies.
Then DC5 came along and I had to think of some more names!

Footle - This Antigone is Jean Anouilh's feisty feminist. And there's an American girl-band called Antigone Rising

blueblizz · 19/02/2012 21:07

Just reading this thread and yep, I always think of Charlie and the chocolate factory when I hear of a Violet!!! (but then I'm also a teacher and have read the book soooooo often) Don't get me started on the name Matilda!!! Good luck. Every child you ever taught will pop in to your head as you choose... fun of the job I guess.

Might be a Scotland thing but Harley is dead common up here for girls and boys.

CheerfulYank · 19/02/2012 22:04

Harley is only for girls here, or for dogs. Usually the dogs of people who ride Harleys.

MrsDeVere I always want to know your children's names whenever you post about them! :)

rumngingerbeer · 19/02/2012 22:17

Loads of chavvy mums here have taken to Cole recently.

I think Harley is very chavvy

Nursee007 · 20/02/2012 09:08

I have a family member called Violet. I hate the name, makes me first think of Violet Beauregarde from Willy Wonka ( and her character is not dissimilar!) and second of little old ladies called Vi!
For boys, how about Titus, Tam, Tristan or Sebastian?
Girls, Iona, Bryony, Maisie, Lara?

ConstantlyFrazzled · 20/02/2012 09:35

Interestigly ds1 has a Harley and a Harvey in his reception class!

Haven't read the whole thread but we called DS (6mths) Keir - bit unusual but not whacky. And no not after Keir Hardie we just liked the name!

TheyCallMeMimi · 20/02/2012 14:07

Astrid or Bronwyn for a girl
DD has a friend called Flora - she never had any problems with her name

Xenophon or Magnus for a boy

Haven't read all posts so apologies if these have been suggested
