DH and I both teachers and looking for quirky names!

My DH and I are both teachers and don't want a name that will remind us of any pupil in particular- so we need something quirky/unusual but not totally "out there"!
DS is 14 months and called Logan- a name which is unusual but not in the realms of wacky and everyone seems to love it.
DC2 due in August and we don't know the sex.
Any ideas?
We've come up with a couple:
Blake
Riley
Noah

Violet
Scarlet (I don't like but DH does!)
Summer (too corney for an August baby??)

There are only 15 children in DD2s class and it includes a Riley, a Logan and a
so I wouldn't say they were particularly uncommon

I wouldn't touch scarlet with a bargepole (scarlet woman).I don't know any summers or violets and I think they are both pretty names.

Linnet
Ramona
Eilidh (pron. Aily, rhymes with Hayley)

I love Logan btw, I have a soft spot for Wolverine (his real name was James but I assume that is too staid for your list! :))
Flint
Grey/Gray
Micah

Sannebanana · 19/02/2012 12:14

I love Melia, considered it for DD but it would have sounded ridiculous with my surname.

Melia
Sapphira
Sabrina
Lena
Saskia
Carmen
Suzanne
Marina

Ohncan I add Patrick for a boy

strandednomore · 19/02/2012 12:26

If he had his way baby would be called Usain Bolt (my due date is the same day as our olympic tickets which are for the mens 100m final!!). - if you go into labour early can I have your tickets please???

And why not Usain if it's a boy? Good name!

shineonycd · 19/02/2012 12:29

How about Elijah, Jesse, for boys or Savannah, Nysa for a baby girl..!!

dandelionss · 19/02/2012 12:32

I love Ariadne too.We see one at swimming lessons and she is quite stunningly beautiful which probably colours my view!!

BabyDubsEverywhere · 19/02/2012 12:34

Kalel.....Supermans real name :)

usingapseudonym · 19/02/2012 12:55

I know one of them! (Kalel that is). Really suits him!

Astronaut79 · 19/02/2012 13:21

Right, old names then:

Jennifer
Irene
Elsie
Kathleen
Rita
Nancy (loved that one, but dh vetoed)
Lilian

Peter
Gerard (although weren't sure how to pronounce it Blush; family said '(ar) Jerrid', but I think it's supposed to be 'Geraarrd'.
Edmund (although bit Narnia)
Richard
Arthur

cherrypieplum · 19/02/2012 13:27

I love Iris and Violet but husband has vetoed them as 'old lady names'. We've been told it's most likely a girl (so frustrating! I was hoping to get a little more certainty!) and so we've settled on Matilda :)

Ample · 19/02/2012 13:33

Would probably help if you know whether you like names that 'you just like the sound of' or if you want a name to compliment Logan or if you prefer a name that's totally out there.

Sorry if xpost. I haven't read the entire thread.

bigbuttons · 19/02/2012 14:11

I see both Rosamund and Clara have been mentioned, I have those and a Lydia, didn't realise they quirky namesShock

saintmerryweather · 19/02/2012 14:17

I love how someone said that the girls names you initally liked are disgusting, then offered up some truly horrendous names instead. Thats Mumsnet for you. :o Personally I love the names Edith and Lacey. What about Felicity (Fliss) or Jocelyn (Joss) for girls? Or Claudia, Cecilia, Georgia...

coldwed · 19/02/2012 14:37

phemze -boy

umzuri - girl

Naturally281110 · 19/02/2012 14:53

Wow! We went out to feed the ducks and I can't believe how busy you guys have been on our behalf! Thanks (having another emotional hormonal moment...)
In terms of my Olympic tickets my DH will have to make a decision on the day if I've not already popped and I've given my dad my ticket :( Typical! And I was so smug rubbing it in to my friends we had tickets!
I am hugely impressed with the volume of names generated- I can't get my head round it all at the moment! I feel another list coming on to cross reference the recent posts against my old list (can you tell I'm a teacher.....??!!)
ample sparkly gold teachers star for you as very impressive list- much to contemplate.
Sorry I haven't mentioned to everyone individually- I do like to try to as I can see you guys have kindly given your time and suggestions to this- am going for a lay down as feeling quite queasy. I'm not someone who blooms during pregnancy let's put it that way!
Was thinking maybe I should put all the names in a hat and pull one put raffle style! Knowing my luck it'll be Thor or Hercules (DH idea of funny).
Thank you everyone! :)

I had a friend called Thor and he was rather lovely so actually I think that's rather a good idea!

strandednomore · 19/02/2012 15:11

Oh yes and I forgot, in case it hasn't been mentioned yet, Eric - someone on MN has to use Eric eventually....

Friend who recently had a girl (and knew in advance it would be a girl) dithered long over Hebe or Orla. The child became Antigone - Tigs or Tiggy for everyday use!

Blx2thelotofem · 19/02/2012 15:18

How do you pronounce Antigone, Kerry?
