Fenton

Adolf, Beelezebub, Satan, Lucifer, Jezabel, Lolita.

Any drug including alcoholic drinks (I taught an Opium - just imagine what she was like, yep just like that).

Parents/grandparents names, personally don't like the Little Johnny Junior or Little Johnny II.

I agree with the previous posters who hate all the little girl twee names (particularly as they end up on grown women). Doubly hate flower names - doubly twee.

So all names like Daisy, Poppy, Rosie, Milly, Tilly, Lilly, Libby, Pansy and so on...

Twee and jut plain naff. Sorry.

Letchladee · 28/01/2012 01:20

just even.

LivingDead · 28/01/2012 01:51

I don't see why it's a horrible thread, unless you are so sensitive that some randomer not liking your child's name would cause you to implode.

I'm not a fan of Evie or Mae or Evie-Mae, or any old lady names tbh especially if double barrelled with Mae or Rose, Esme or Enid or Florence or Ivy....you get the idea . One old lady name I do like though is Violet.

Also don't like overly American sounding names like Madison or Georgia, my niece has a Jenai as a friend which sounds like something from neighbours circa 1990, oh and a Chenille, odd.

For boys I dislike Bailey, Harvey, Mason, Kai, Kaydon lots of names really, I'm a bit more biblical in my tastes. I dislike old man names for boys too.

Like most people I'm pretty meh about 99% of names, it wouldn't be so bloody hard to choose otherwise,

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 28/01/2012 01:55

Anything ending in -bert or -ie, for boys. Honoria, Emmeline, Alberta, Gertrude. Although I might feel different about Honoria without the PG Wodehouse associations.

LivingDead · 28/01/2012 01:58

I have know a few Lily's and Poppy's in their 50's though, didn't seem particularly odd, people grow into their names too, plus once you meet someone, their name is kind of just them isn't it?

startail · 28/01/2012 02:39

I'm not mad on the flowery ones. I know a few of the twee flowery ones and none of the girls in question are twee or flowery.

Lauren no good reason just prefer Laura.
Evelyn, Evie is lovely, but Evelyn will always be an ancient great aunt. Like Maud, Gladys and Beryl.

whatever117 · 28/01/2012 02:46

Cuntchops.

I wonder if you could legally call your poor child that?

ThePoorMansBeckySharp · 28/01/2012 03:03

"I can't bear Poppy, Daisy, Milly, Tilly, Holly, Maisy, Molly.....and all those cutesy diminutive flowery names that seem to be all the rage.

Yuck. Just picture them at 50."

I couldn't agree more. So sickly-sweet!

whatever117 · 28/01/2012 03:27

ThePoorMan - I agree. I don't like those type of names - especially ending in an "ie" - e.g. Hollie, Mollie. Imagine filling in a PhD application form.

Rebecca, Catherine, Sarah, Jane, Louise, Elizabeth, Juliet and Eleanor have a grown woman about them whilst still sounding pretty.

GusTheOneEyedPolarBear · 28/01/2012 03:57

Ellie, Millie, Gracie, Amelia, Caitlin or any other of those really Cutesy girly names. They're really not my cup of tea, nothing wrong with them otherwise

Not keen on the whole Hayden/Jayden thing for boys either or connor, tyler, Callum, Kieron. Again perfectly good names just not for me.

I quite like the name chris/christopher for a boy but could never use it with our surname because the poor child would then share his full name with a famous person! Feel thats a little bit mean :)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/01/2012 15:12

DD2's first and mns both on here now. :)

I don't think it's a horrible thread. It's just people expressing opinions. I like dd's names so it matters not a jot to me if somebody else thinks they are cutesy or silly or whatever. Why should it?

BarryManilowsWardrobe · 28/01/2012 16:16

I dislike any hyphenated names. I have one and don't like it.
I can think of at least four girls born in the last two years named x-May/Mai. Latest being Kaycee-Mai. I especially dislike this, I don't really like K names, I have one, which has been mentioned on the thread.

I also have an irrational dislike of the name Noah. No idea why. I'm not keen on lots of old lady names, Ethel, Martha, Mary, Doris, Enid etc.

WittyTitle · 28/01/2012 16:30

I treated a "good-news" once, that was his first name. poor bastard

DilysPrice · 28/01/2012 16:34

Doesn't seem to have done Goodluck Jonathan any harm (I personally wouldn't want the Presidency of Nigeria, but presumably he did).

StarryEyedYoghurt · 28/01/2012 16:38

My name has been mentioned quite a few times already on here Sad I actually love my name, which I think is quite rare as most people I know don't like the name their parents gave them.

I hate the Hayden, Jayden, Kayden brigade and can't stand names that are the shortened version of a name - like Chris being someones whole name.

WittyTitle · 28/01/2012 16:40

yeh but the bad news for him, he was in A and E, Grin

I also knew a family where all of the children started with a D' ...there was D'lila, D'estiny, D'vine, D'angelo and D'avid....I think they ran out of steam with the last one!

WittyTitle · 28/01/2012 16:41

Incidentally, my name is totally weird to most people, as are my childrens, but im okay with that because I know if I was home, we would be normal!

exoticfruits · 28/01/2012 17:10

OH's cousin named his children Damien, Pagan and Jezabel Hmm Sadly, Damien killed his father with a machete (I'm not joking, he really did) :(

WittyTitle · 28/01/2012 22:28
Confused
Popoozle · 28/01/2012 22:49

WittyTitle - your post has reminded me of a local family with 5 boys. Each one has a hyphenated first name and each first name begins with a double letter. It was fine when their first DS was named Lloyd-X, but by DS5 the names were very clearly made up to fit the "criteria" Grin.

Popoozle · 28/01/2012 22:55

I can't bear Poppy, Daisy, Milly, Tilly, Holly, Maisy, Molly.....and all those cutesy diminutive flowery names that seem to be all the rage.

Ah, how sweet of you to mention my entire name shortlist for DD. Grin She has one of those names, two others were the names that DS1 & DS2 would have had, had they been girls.

Popoozle · 28/01/2012 22:56

Although, still no-one has mentioned DS2's name. I need it to complete my bingo card, don't cha know Grin.
