Three syllabel Girls Names - with nice shortening

I'm not bothered by popularity. I have a popular name and I like it.

I love the names Isabel, Olivia, Amelia, but would not use as I'd run the risk of Izzy, Livvie or Milly. I don't like the ie or y ending.

I like a classic strong name.

I have a lot of name associations, so although nice names, I would not use Annabel, Verity, Catherine, Christina, Susannah or Violet. I just can't get past the people I know with these names. Silly I know.

Certain names that trend on here, such as Allegra, I consider too posh, and it doesn't fit with common DH and I.

Hope I have not offended everyone.

So far we have one name:

Helena

Any other suggestions?

Patience
Hope
Constance
Faith
Tanya

"Penelope is beautiful and Penny is nice............"

BTW - Penny ends in a Y!!!!

PercyFilth
FFS! Lowri ends in an -i sound.

That'd be why I thought I liked the name, but wasn't certain, it wasn't fitting into place. As we have discovered, I contradict myself lots!!

Meonia - anagram of I Am One

Martha - like this name, but not loving it
Freya - I suggested this one to DH, and he said "sprayer". Even I don't get the association, but it was vetoed.

MildlyNarkyPuffin - I thought Helen of Troy was the one who launched a 1,000 ships, and Cassandra got to have sex with Brad Pitt?

I thought Cassandra was beautiful in the film.

Redrubyblues that reminds me of the vicar who had a crisis of faith who called his daughters Faith, Hope and Wendy.

hohohoshedittant

OP have you thought what will happen if you name you DD then someone with that name wins x-factor/big brother/kills someone a couple of weeks after your baby is born? Or what if you say to someone 'oh this is Helena' and they say 'Helena, oh that always reminds me of that 17th century serial killer/whore/x-factor winner'.....then what will you do.....

Well, I'll have to deal with that, at the time. I'll just start out by avoiding such names.

'Well, I'll have to deal with that, at the time. I'll just start out by avoiding such names.'

Can anyone else see a thread mid-August along the lines..'need to change DD's name, just met a bitch called Helena'

shouldnotbehere · 08/12/2011 14:03

Right then, logging off for a while, as I need to get on with work.

Up-to-date shortlist

Lillian
Helena
Caroline
Iona

Lorna
Scarlett
Angharad

OP posts:
shouldnotbehere · 08/12/2011 14:04

Camerondiazepam · 08/12/2011 14:08

Adelaide, nn Della
Naomi (failing on the nn though)
Francesca - you would get Franny or Frankie
Susannah - I know one who is shortened to Zannah (no really!)
Hyacinth (sound of a barrel being scraped...?)

Sorry I don't know how to search for names already used as I'm a total Luddite on an iPad.

Redrubyblues · 08/12/2011 14:12

Finally a shortlist!

Iona Faye

shouldnotbehere · 08/12/2011 14:12

Just done a control F to work out who suggested which name, as some of you were getting rather competitive. Here you are:

Caroline - kalo12 and ThoseClementineShoes
Iona - MrsOzz
Lorna - FellatioNelson
Scarlett - kalo12
Angharad - FellatioNelson and Redrubyblues

Faye
Lillian
Helena

Thanks

Control + F

Redrubyblues · 08/12/2011 14:13

Let us just hope she doesn't marry a man with a noun for a surname.

Iona Carr..................................etc etc

Redrubyblues · 08/12/2011 14:14

Angharad - nn Annie!

Camerondiazepam · 08/12/2011 14:15

I don't have a control button, I'm on an iPad.

shouldnotbehere · 08/12/2011 14:15

Redrubyblues - I'm suspicious that you are trying to put me off Iona, so that the name you suggested Angharad gets picked!!

OP posts:
Redrubyblues · 08/12/2011 14:24

I love the name Iona - it is very classy and timeless, she will have long red hair in ringlets and play the harp and be ethereal and spiritual.

Angharad will be able to heave an ox over her shoulder and go home via the pub and twelve pints of snakebite.

FellatioNelson · 08/12/2011 15:11

OP, regarding your shortlist of 14.03

I don't like Lillian. Take it off please.

Redrubyblues · 08/12/2011 15:19

Fellatio

We make sure she does not deviate from Angharad.

BibiBelle · 08/12/2011 15:25

You do all realise that this is going to go on till July Hmm

kalo12 · 08/12/2011 15:42

if you're due in july do you know already baby is defo a girl?

a friend who is a numerologist told me that she believes the baby communicates the name to the mother - it is already chosen.

therefore immaterial what your dh thinks, and also helena it is or maybe you are having a boy.

i spent a time canvassing my baby names on here from my shortlist, when baby came he didn't suit any, after a week i gave him a very run of the mill name that i have never ever liked but it was so him and i now love it

BibiBelle · 08/12/2011 15:46

Kalo - no she doesn't know the sex of the baby and her DH doesn't want to find out either.
