If you could choose just one boys name as your all time favourite- what would it be?

We are really stuck on a name for DS2. We already have DS1 who is Joseph, we loved this name from day one and never ever had any doubts throughout the pregnancy and when he was born it just 'fit' and suited him perfectly. I think I love his name so much that thinking of another I like as much is impossible!

Currently names we like but don't LOVE are:
Thomas
Henry
Oliver

All fairly traditional and popular names but my question is if you could pick just ONE boys name, unusual, popular or traditional, what would it be??

James without a doubt!

missymarmite · 10/11/2011 20:48

Oscar. Love the name.

Am currently campaigning for Clarence or Paddington. Both being met with derision from DH.

wildspinning · 10/11/2011 21:08

James and Joseph. LOVE both of them but couldn't have either due to family members already having those names Sad

Regret DS's name to be honest and wish I had gone with James despite my reservations. Ah well.

Interesting how the clear majority of the mentioned names are "traditional classics" (Thomas, Benjamin, Samuel etc). Not too many mentions of Alfie, Archie, Ethan, Finn, Stanley and other zeitgeisty names. MNers are a traditional lot Smile

Edward!

I love both my boys names, Zachary & Malachi (which I particularly love). We definitely don't shorten either of them. And Malachi is pronounced Mal-ach-eye.

MuddlingThroughItAll · 10/11/2011 21:20

I have 5 boys so my favourites would be Darwin, Heath, Shay, Gabriel and Hendrix, but there are so many others I love! We will just have to have a menagerie of pets now so that I can use them all :o

Helgicita · 10/11/2011 21:23

James James James!

thesurgeonsmate · 10/11/2011 21:26

Paddington! Shock After the bear? Or just the station direct without the intermediary of the bear?

WanderingSheep · 10/11/2011 21:32

James is my most favourite name for a boy. Doesn't go with our surname though, not that it matters as we'll never have a boy!

I also like Theodore shortened to Theo.

Thomas is lovely too but James is my absolute favourite boys name.

Whyriskit · 10/11/2011 21:40

DS1 is James and I love the name. Although I have caught myself calling him Jamesy, which isn't cool when you're scottish.
I love Murdo and Finn, but Finn doesn't go with our surname and Murdo was vetoed by DH.
Thinking about having 3rd DC and if this one is a boy, we're really stuck. DS2 is only called what he is because we'd decided on Angus and he didn't look like an Angus when he came out. He really was a spur of the moment decision.

LynetteScavo · 10/11/2011 21:48

There are so many lovely boys names, I could never pick one!

I would say Joseph or James, but that won't help the OP, so;

Edward
Jack
Hugo
Bruce
Hamish
Milo

cocoachannel · 10/11/2011 21:51

I love Alexander, but as DD is Alexandra not an option if I have a boy.

My second favourite boy's name is also not an option due to the Neville Neville factor...

joanofarchitrave · 10/11/2011 21:53

Daniel.

freyamalaya · 10/11/2011 21:55

Jude!! And it goes great with Joseph. Slightly biased as my DS is Jude Joseph... Grin

purpleloosestrife · 10/11/2011 21:57

sooooo many lovely names on here! I also am a fan of James ( if DD had been a boy she might have been a James) I also love Reuben, Raphael and Cameron and Atticus.

Fuzzywood · 10/11/2011 21:59

Evan is my favourite. I have one he's just gorgeous Grin
Henry from your list.

Plonker · 10/11/2011 22:01

Sebastian

latenightmum · 10/11/2011 22:02

Otis

ShowOfHands · 10/11/2011 22:07

DS is Raphael Erasmus. Love them both.

MiauMau · 10/11/2011 22:09

I always loved the Portuguese version of Thomas, Tomás, but it was spoiled for because there are already two in DH's family and it has an accent which would be a bugger in English and without it, it means something different.
So, when we found out that I was pregnant we sat down and came up with an alternative which we both love Vicente! Sounds good in both languages, has no accents and it also has a lovely Portuguese legend to accompany it. Just perfect :)

BarryShitpeas · 10/11/2011 22:13

Francis

MegBusset · 10/11/2011 22:20

I wanted DS1 to be John but DH said no :(

Other vetoed names I love are Arthur and Milo, if I had another boy tomorrow I would call him Louis (pronounced Lou-ee).
